Name chasing is a major JS failing that he won't stop. I think most of us can name several he signed that underperformed their cost and contract.

Not trying to over react but 30+ year old with recent injury issues and little gas left in the tank. Feels like a stupid move in what may be 12 games on the field in 2 years if we are lucky at 1/2 of what he used to be.

I'd rather have a 20 something year old that was the last DE cut from the team with the best DE group in the NFL or a PS DE on a great defensive team (though I am not sure how that works in the off-season - maybe you can't).
Crazy to think this all began by snagging Chris Clemons his first off-season.

He's been an amazing players except for two years... his pressure rate is off the charts

If you stick to pure "yearly stats" Last year seemed bad, but he played 4 games and still got 3 sacks and 8 Pressures... he was actually on pace to have a GREAT year until his foot took him out.. and with the Cowboys not even sniffing the playoffs at that point shut him down (Probably a personal decision too for recovery)

2 years for 18? Mike is a defensive Savant so I tend to side with his input as we saw last year with Jones. If he feels he needs this piece then I’m excited to see what he does with it. I love it.
Jones was brought in largely because the two other LBs he brought in couldn't cut it. At least two of his other acquistions in Jenkins and Ray-Robertson or whatever his name was are already gone too.

I'm not claiming he doesn't know defense, but people acting like he can't do wrong are misinformed too.

It's not 2 years for $18 million. It's $18 million guaranteed. It's $42 million over 3 years, which is a $14 million per year average. Not sure how the contract is structured, but it's probably something like $6 million signing bonus, then $12 million per year salary.

So it's most likely one year at $18 million, and more like $30 million if we keep him for the second year. But the good thing is that we can cut our losses after this year if it doesn't work out.

Btw, PFF gave this trade a "good" grade.

None of them are perfect I just trust Macdonald more than most, especially since they’ve gotten some time together and know each other a little better. Lawrence could be a bust if he gets hurt but I like the risk

Jerry Jones is laughing hysterically right now. This is just Dre' mont Jones jr.

Just look at the math, his last 3 seasons have been progressively worse. There is no way he wasn't considering retiring.

Then JS gets on the phone and says to him "Yo, you want a free 18 million"?

If you ever wonder was it JS or MM who made the call....it's always JS. Don't romanticize it! Sure everyone will be in the meeting but every choice is 100% determined by JS . When was the last time the front office said "We were overridden by the coach on that transaction"?
Progressively worse? He was #2 in the league against the run behind only Maxx Crosby in 2023. He played 4 games in 2024 and was having a great year before an insignificant injury. Had they made the playoffs he would’ve played. He’s not coming in to play 100% of the snaps so he will stay fresh.

I swear, some of the people on this board, this whole fan base know absolutely nothing about what they’re talking about before they open their mouth.

I have no opinion about this really but I thought we were trying to get younger or was that just a mistaken vibe?
It’s ok to not be 100% 22 year olds. Having a solid veteran to be a leader is always a great option.

Reed, Lawrence and Love are the older veteran leaders. We’re still a young unit.

Lawrence is an absolute stud. One of those elite players that loves the game of football and knows that his success is linked to the success of his teammates. Couldn’t have picked up a better vet to add to this defense.

Plus, anything that weakens the Cowboys or any contender in the NFC is an additional bonus. And I'm sure the Cowboy fans are not happy about losing Lawrence.

I don't get this move. This guy is 6 years removed from double digit sacks. JS should have gone after Za'Darius Smith. I'm really starting to lose faith in him. You need at least one guy who can give you 10+ sacks a year on your DLine!
