Guys, Clowney, Ansah, and Jefferson have been close but no cigar on getting home for sacks, adding any type of force at all in addition to what we’re trotting out right now will not simply be another weapon, it’s going to increase the high motor productivity of Ansah and Clowney, we’re going to get sacks now and you know that 3rd down problem and two minute defendensw l? Yeah.... just as we’re starting to find the football in the secondary as well

Boy I hope you're right, cause our pass rush especially interior pressure is downright abysmal.

No sacks and I don't think any hits either on Mayfield yesterday..........except the chest head butt from Clowney for 15 yards.

Dominate is pretty ambitious, I'll settle for improvement. :2thumbs:

I'm actually wondering if what is missing is a speed outside rusher. Hopefully getting more push up the middle will help, but it seems as if the Hawks' problem is too many defensive linemen who can play multiple positions but that means they don't have the speed to really get around the edge.

I wonder if getting Queem on the field would help. Occurred to me yesterday that he's on the active roster and not inactive.

Speed on the outside does very little unless you can get some push in the middle to stop the QB from stepping up. Guys like Shaqueem are too light to be legitimate rushers as they get swallowed up by good Tackles. As a situational blitzes i can see him wreaking havoc but you need guys that can both bull rush and bend around the edge to make an effective rusher.

Bruce Irvin was hella fast too and bigger than Griffin and never got more than mediocre as a rush end.

Back to back games with no sacks.

First, thank you for using the word "dominate" as a verb, not an adjective. :2thumbs:

Second, while I like Reed, and I believe he'll help the line a bit, too many posters are holding out hopes he's the last, great relief for our ailing pass-rush. When/if that doesn't materialize, the hand-wringing here will elevate to even more absurd levels.

Reed has improved every year since he was a rookie on this team. He more than any other DL last year collapsed the opponents interior week after week. There is no doubt this will happen going forward. That alone will make a major effect with total sacks. Not just a bit.

You will see.

The best we had had so far has been Jefferson. Put him with Reed at DT's and you will see interior pressure. I have no doubt about that fact. We can use Poona and Wood for our heavy package and rotations. But when QB pressure is needed that is what I would do.

Maybe, we'll see.

I hope people aren't expecting Reed to come in and dominate immediately. Dude hasn't played in seven weeks. But yes, we desperately need him in that D-line rotation, cause they stink right now. Which is disheartening with Clowney and Ansah. Ansah's been a failure, a big one.

Pete's even taking snaps away from him now, his snaps were down yesterday.

I noticed that about Ansah as well and yes it may take a few games to get Reed up to speed. But the other side may be that he is biting at the bit to get back into games, and may be far more ready than any of us realize. That is my hope.

Besides, he knows what's at stake after this season with his contract. I think he is going to put 16 games of production into the remaining 10 games just to make his point about getting paid. :irishdrinkers:

Yep, contract year for Reed. But that doesn't necessarily equate to production with players.

But there is no downside to getting your best interior lineman back, we need Reed desperately if this D-line wants to turn it around.

Sacks are nice but pressures create turnovers, we get a lot of pressures.

I dunno, Rufus Porter was pretty awesome. I'm not saying an every down role at DE but in obvious passing situations or 2 minute defense. Could be a good change up. And not saying it has to be him, but somebody bringing some heat off the edge.

We went out and got two of those guys in Ansah and Clowney, to use more draft capital midway through the season to find another guy would be an epic failure with so many other needs to address before the trading deadline.

Pete and John addressed the issue, now we need these two to earn it. Especially Ansah. Dude's making a $1,000,000 a month, and he's been healthy now for 3-4 weeks. It's time to perform.

If Reed creates havoc on day one. Great. But realistically, I think Pete will slowly integrate him into the rotation.

Yes, it’s his contract year, but this is Clowney’s contract year too.

I just hope the front 4 gels in a couple of weeks....before the Niners game.

Who's talking about draft capital?

How else are you going to get an impact edge rusher midway through the season.
