Toomer is one I'm hoping picks up enough to start on the strong side and end up splitting downs with Irvin. Toomer is just an explosive, explosive athlete with a good frame.
Howard also falls in that category of elite athlete for his position. I've literally watched him run down a TE on the sideline 30 yards downfield. Ran a 4.78 40, which isn't far off from some LBs in the NFL. Has a real quick step at the snap too. He may not learn to use his natural strength in run defense well enough to start this year, but I'd like to see him get 5 sacks in spot duty and alongside Bennett as a DT on 3rd down.
I think Guy starts showing up in 3 safety packages. His coverage of Gonzo in that ATL game was ridiculously good even though Gonzo's hall of fame hands still made those catches. Guy has some real ability and it should start to show up on the field here and there this year.
Jeron Johnson will have some more competition this year making the roster.
Would like to say Harper, but there are 4 very good WRs ahead of him. He may see the field, but he'll have to really show up in practice to get game reps.
I don't think Luke Wilson is a dark horse. He's intelligent, good hands, willing as a blocker, and is fast. For all intents and purposes he should be a good TE and our 2nd TE at that this year. That is, of course, unless McGrath improves upon what looked to be a very technically sound overall game that I saw in the preseason last year. If he's better physically this year as reported, Wilson has legitimate competition for that 2nd TE spot.
