I just read that Smith played 61% of our snaps in the SF game, which is pretty insane for a guy we traded for after the pre-season ended.

I watched the game again, but I was really focused on our corners and Bennett/Bryant. I could definitely take another look at the All-22, but did anyone out there get a chance to pick out Smith specifically? Was he playing well or just eating space or what?

After watching the all 22, this is my impression: he was double teamed quite a bit. When he got 1 on 1s he didn't seemed to make any standout plays. He took up space, is about the best I can say of him. He had a bit of hustle to the ball, but was never really in position to make a play.

I think this guy is going to be a decent role player for us. It seems like the coaches want to use him a lot and he graded out well in the Panthers game too.

So far he's looked kind of like a poor man's Tony McDaniel. Good athlete for his size, good length, but more of a power rusher than a pass rusher. He doesn't look as good as Jaye Howard looked in the preseason, but that's water under the bridge. I think they gave him so many reps because they wanted to see what he could do before Clemons and Hill come back. When those two come back, it's going to get crowded on the DL and Smith will probably end up on the inactive list until another injury happens. So getting him a ton of looks makes sense.

The man goes. He goes and goes and goes. He never gets there, but he goes.
