Is it just me or is anyone else noticing the lack of use of check downs these past games? No need to point out one or two specific instances, I am just talking about in general. It seems like the general philosophy on offense is to run the ball as much as possible and try not to rely on RW too much to protect him. But he seems to hold on to the ball for forever scanning downfield when there is a check down that would give him 4 or 5 at least. If this is the play call I understand trying to get the big plays, but it kind of seems to go against the philosophy of getting the ball out quick so RW doesn't get hit as much... And if it isn't the play call is that RW trying to do too much because he doesn't have many chances to throw?

Has RW ever been one to check down often? I don't recall him doing so much last year, the times I remember failed pretty miserably. Did he do it in college? Maybe this is something where his height does effect him.

In this game...a lot of his check down options were forced to stay in an block to help out the line.

Not really sure where his height is more a factor here than any other throw he has to make, except maybe a hail mary where he can simply launch it over everyone. Throwing lanes are throwing lanes.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Do we want Russell Wilson to be more like Alex Smith or continue to extend plays with his feet. We've seen time and time again where Russ checked down all of his targets and rolls out to make something else happen.

I hope he continues to use the check down sparingly. It seems it can become a habit for some guys. A hard habit to break, one that can keep a good QB from becoming great.

Same could be said of the habit of hardly ever using them.

I agree IF not using them prevents winning.

I really believe this is where Christine Michael should be utilized. This guy is a beast especially in space. We need to have packages for him like a Darren Sproles type of role. We spent a 2nd round pick on this guy, so far we haven't used him. That is not good news b/c that means so far we haven't seen much from our 1st and 2nd round picks this year.

That's what happens to teams with good rosters. It's only been 4 games and he's been active for 2 in a crowded backfield. Let him develop.
