Ok, I admit I’m not no where close to a BB expert, in fact, I probably no less than the average fan.

Can someone explain the logic in the trade?

Atlanta gives up what seems to be a bunch, then almost immediately announced that the plan to release him?

What the Hell?

It sounds like he may land in Houston so I’m not mad, I just don’t understand the logic behind the trade.

Any input?

Edit:
My point being, why give up anything for a player you don’t plan on retaining?

Sounds like a money move and to get out of contracts so they can do something else.

Texans traded Osweiler to Cleveland and did about the same thing if you remember.

Atlanta drafted Trae Young, but had another PG on their roster set to make 4/70. Expiring contracts are huge in the NBA. A great way to get out of a contract you don't want. They chose to eat 27 mil and get no player rather than pay their backup PG 4/70.

I'm actually surprised the Thunder would do it. But they are up against the luxury tax, so taking the $10 mil less saves them over 100 mil in penalties.
