I truly do.

Having said that, I’m posting this in regards to our annual “contest”.

I’ve tried to come up with something engaging for a few seasons now.
Until this season I’ve offered up a prize from my personal collection of memorabilia. This year @AROS offered up a fine contribution.

If you are unaware of what I’m talking about where have you been? (Please look at the thread that is “stickied” at the top of the main page)

Back to my belief/faith in this community.

I’m in a conundrum of sorts.
The contest that I’ve decided on this year actually requires a ton of work to keep up with.

It’s been suggested and wisely so, that we allow google, yahoo or some other “off site” party to run/keep up with our contest.

I don’t like that idea, I don’t like having our members leaving “our”home site to be involved in “our” contest.
I am an internet/ computer dinosaur but this seems completely wrong to me.

This contest as outlined will require a significant amount of work to keep up with, and frankly I don’t have the time by myself.

I believe that we can police ourselves, and that we actually don’t need no dam “policing”.

I’m going to suggest, according to the rules already set out for this season.

Each participant comes back each week and tallies up their own score, makes one edit to that weeks prediction and assigns themselves their points for that week.

This in turn will allow myself or any other volunteer the make a weekly post with our standings.

I’d be willing to allow for an “honest mistake” but the stipulation would be that anyone actually attempting to cheat would automatically and immediately be removed from participation.

I’m just spit balling here, and nothing is set in stone yet. I’m merely looking for input and general consensus.

I’m looking for reasonable and realistic ideas that don’t require us to have a third party run “our” contest.

If you are looking for a Pick'em style competition a Pick'em/Survivor add-on is available for the XenForo forum software. This would allow site staff to run competitions without visiting 3rd party sites. I'm told that 1-year licenses are not expensive. However, it requires site ownership level access to purchase and install the add-on. It would still be time consuming to create tournaments and create schedules. (That I can help with). As of 2019 it wasn't the best designed software I had ever seen but it did allow for the creation of some unusual competitions.

Sounds interesting

Maybe we can get ownership to look into it.

Bump.

I understand and APPRECIATE the humor.

Could I please get some actual feedback on the topic at hand?

This is “our house” and this is “our” contest.

Do yall think we need to, or should do this contest off site?

Do you believe we can handle it (trust one another) to keep everything here @.net without it being a burden to anyone in particular?

Come on guys, this is the stuff that sets us apart for the others.

I just need some input from the masses, serious/realistic input.

Off-site would be way easier. Why try to reinvent the wheel? There are many different platforms that perform these functions at a high level with easy setup/control by an admin. I think asking people to basically do their homework and then grade it would cause the contest to fizzle out before it is complete. If you want to have people compete through the full season, making them do as little work as possible is the way to go.
