Can we look ahead to the Red 'n Gold elephant in the room?

I'm not too worried about them. We know their scheme better than anyone else in the league. We can stop Frank Gore. We will need to spy Kaep, especially on 3rd down when he runs the most. LOB matches well against their receivers. Lynch still owns their vaunted defense.

Bonus tip: whenever they audible - "kill, kill, kill" - it's gonna be a run.

They have been beating lesser thans.

How can you say that with a straight face a day after struggling with the worst team in the league... missing two of their biggest stars AND using a backup QB.
Tampa Bay is Kansas City 2013. A hugely talented team suffering under bad coaching and likely quitting on him also.

I know he sort of isn't but Glennon is their starting quarterback

With all due respect to the OP, as long as we can win vs Altanta and Minny (and I think we will), then I don't think we should worry about San Fran. At least not yet. San Fran is about to hit the toughest part of their schedule starting with the Panthers (who aren't a joke) at the stick, followed by New Orleans at New Orleans (and I suspect that they lose that one since very few teams can beat the Saints at home), followed by a road trip to Washington who is suddenly playing better than they had been. That's all before they have to face us.

As I indicated above, I think the Niners lose at least one of these, and there is a good chance they lose two. How they play in these games will tell us a lot, and the 'hawks should be a lot healthier by then as well. So let's burn one bridge at a time. At least that's my advice.

Very much agreed. In fact going into the season, Tampa Bay was considered a borderline playoff team and a trendy pick to make the NFC playoffs. If you look at their first few games, this is confirmed (with very narrow losses to some very good teams).

They're the 49ers. We don't give them any respect.

:49ersmall:

I do. And I believe most of them respect us as well.

Sure do. The Hawks have been very out of sync lately (kind like the 9ers earlier this year), but that's all it is: they're just out of sync. There's not a chance in heck I'm expecting that to last. I'm guessing the 9ers go 3-2 in their next 5 and finish the season at 12-4 or 11-5. TBH I think the Hawks have won too many close games (that they very well could have lost) for the 9ers to have a shot at the division title. They're only one game back and they still get their home game to try to tie things up, but quite frankly I just don't see it happening.

It does look like it's going to come down to the 49ers, doesn't it?

The Saints don't look like worldbeaters lately, and they are 1.5 games back on us with a trip to Seattle looming. The Packers just lost Rodgers for about 3 weeks, and the Bears are already working with a backup. The Lions are inconsistent, as is the entire NFC East. The Panthers are up and coming, but we've already got a win over them.

We're going to find out a whole lot about how the division and playoff seeds fall in the next few weeks. We've got 2 games we SHOULD win, and then a bye. Plus, we're getting key guys back in Okung, Giacomini, and Harvin. The 49ers are getting guys back, as well, but they're facing Carolina, @New Orleans, and @Washington. That's clearly a tougher slate.

I'd like to think that our coaching staff will continue making the adjustments to the problem areas, as they have been so far (just watch Wilson's play over the last 3-4 weeks for a nice example), but that we'll be able to start cleaning things up a little more against Atlanta and Minnesota, and then use the bye to get some guys some rest and recharge. I think we should go into the bye at 10-1, assuming that the team doesn't spot the opponent a 3 TD lead again and the defense gets back to basics. I know those are big assumptions, but I've got to believe that the coaches are as aware of the issues as we are, and that they've got a plan to address them.

So we host the Saints on Monday night with a 10-1 record and a pair of healthy starting tackles, if everything goes well. SF hosts the Rams on the previous Saturday with a 9-2 or maybe even 8-3 record. Man, early December is going to be CRUCIAL when it comes to the NFC playoffs. Can't wait.

I don't think it does any good to focus on them, it's almost like looking in the rear view mirror for a cop.

We need to keep winning and that is what we can control.

Kill kill kill means go to the alternate play. The 49ers coaches call in two plays in the huddle every play. A main and an alternate.

If this was true, every team in the league would have picked up on it already.

It's just what I've noticed from the games I've watched. The "alternate" play is usually a Frank Gore run up the middle

My personal opinion is this belongs in the main forum but I get the technical reason it was moved.

That aside, the Niners have been taking care of business against inferior opponents better than we have recently. They look like a team who can be trusted not to piddle away their chance at HFA to the Bucs at home. That, and the people they have coming back, concerns me.

What'll be interesting, as was said earlier, is how they do against the better teams like the ones they face over the next 3. My fervent hope is that some of those games will be televised in Seattle on the basic cable channels. I don't have any fancy NFL package and I would dearly love to watch the Niners all the way through the season because of how close a race it is this year.

Yeah, after reading some of your posts I've come around a bit. I think our chances are looking good for HFA as long as, of course, we take care of our own business, and San Fran loses one or two of its tough upcoming games. Then we can absorb a possible/probable loss in SF and still retain the all-important HFA. The next few weeks will be VERY interesting...

I can't even imagine the sheer ecstasy of beating them on their own turf... PLEASE let it happen!

If we beat SF or NO we will have the #1 seed. It doesn't matter which one. But beating SF in SF will definitely be an affirmation of our dominance against SF.

2-0, 1-1, and yet to be determined is not exactly "dominance".

IF we win, that would be 3-0 with the current quarterbacks, 3-1 overall, and an ungodly point differential. That is as much as a two year dominance as you can get.

If you look at it that way, but in order to win championships, you need to dominate more than just your division rival.

Grasping at straws there, buddy. This is a thread on the Niners vs the Seahawks. Not "Can we win the Super Bowl by only beating SF". How do reach the playoffs? Win the division. How do you win the division? Beat your division rivals. We've done that this year. Have you?

No not yet this year, but based on what I have seen the last two weeks, things look pretty good.
