This is putting out a message to the entire league that we're desperate. Someone is going to try to rip us off.

Irvin had two solo tackles and zero sacks in six games for the Bears last season. This is wasting a practice squad spot.
Rip us off? You mean by signing a guy off the street who has experience playing 3-4 LB for Sean Desai last year that also played on two Pete Carroll Superbowl teams we are somehow jeopardizing the future of this franchise?

Interesting take.

Can Irvin play inside? Or just on the edge? What we need is an inside backer than can read a damned gap and tackle a ball carrier before he's 8 yards down the field.

They need some obvious help setting the edge, too

I like this move a lot. Can use him in some situational 3rd down situations to really bring pressure from the edges or up the A gap.

Need someone to set the edge it looks like. As long as he can do that so others can flock and make the tackles I'm fine if he has zero tackles this season. Can't be worse than Taylor constantly rushing up field to tackle air.

There are 32 head coaches who didn't sign him over the first five weeks of the season.
There could be a thousand and one reasons why Irvin was not picked up by any of the other 31 teams and none of them necessarily about his playing ability. Myself, I think picking up a veteran that has been halfway decent during his career, over keeping an unknown UDFA rookie OT that has never even seen a snap, is a positive move.

Nah. He can execute the concepts. The team is hurting on the edge and a guy with SAM experience can be crucial here. All the guys who can set an edge successfully keep getting injured. We know Bruce can, as a part timer if nothing else.

If he wants to be here, then I'm all for that
I won't take credit for this happening but 2 days ago I thought "Bruce Irvin could do better here" when thinking of our OLB situation. Now we'll see if that opinion is true LOL.

I'm sure it is. Man knows how to set that edge. He's not gonna run a 4.3 flat anymore, but he'll be competent and help the young dude

I'm hoping signing Irvin will have the positive outcome on Taylor the way that signing AP did on Penny.

I doubt Bruce has much left in the tank but I don't see any downside here because we don't have anything to lose. Darryl Johnson was an upgrade over Taylor and he was released by the Panthers.
