Oh, I agree. It was arm char ARM CHAIR science. There could have been a million more tests to run, (multiple balls, more random throws of unknown PSI charted, hell, even running a lap or two around the yard before we started throwing, to say the very least,) but I wanted to go hands on in the most basic of ways to see if there really was something to the concept that "deflating the balls does nothing; it's a non-story", followed by a dismissive Frenchman's wave that a lot of naysayers are spouting while never touching a ball, let alone monkeying with the PSI.
For me, personally, I noticed an improvement in catching, (can't say yay/nay in regards to throwing as monkeys hurling poo have better mechanics than I do,) and was definitely able to get a better grip while tucking the ball in with the lower PSI, so I can at least rely on personal experience when I say there seems to be potential of better control with a lighter ball instead of just outright dismissing the notion because I don't want to believe or think it's a non-issue.
The fridge test was also somewhat telling as yes, the PSI rose back to near normal, but it rose back to damn near what it was when it was put in. I believe Steve said he tried it a few more times over the next few days and had almost identical results. That raises huge red flags in regards to the all over the map half time readings of the Pats balls, (even if one where to factor in the possibly of different gauges being used,). Leads me to believe that something like that is a lot more common in a case of "insert needle, count 3, pull" situation than having that many game balls not be in a more uniform range set to the QBs liking.
Combine that with the paper trail from Klump and Schlubb, the Pats throwing in the towel after vowing to fight to the last man, reports that the brass might not believe Brady, Pats league ranking in fumbles after the rule change, and Brady lauding those perfect balls, (while the list can go on and on,) there seems to be a heck of a lot of smoke coming from their camp.
