Any hope I had for this happening is gone. Seattle doesn't deserve anything fun. Screw it...they should just build another museum or theater in that location.

I read just a couple comments on the article where Van Dick says he'll sue if the city passes the arena proposal...I had to close the page cuz I just felt like punching someone, and the only person near me was my gf.

What have yall heard that is new news

Not really, just a bunch of bitching and moaning from Seattle and Hansen trying to tell them that Van Dyk is wrong.

I know a lot of those people are a minority, and so are the arena backers also in the minority, most people just don't care they'll be fine either way. My whole thing is the arrogance and ignorance they have, I read them in disgust.

Let's not get too down about things. The worst thing we can do is see the naysayers come in and start making their counterarguments and start sinking and resigning ourselves to an inevitable defeat. We can do this damn thing. It's also our last chance, so there's no time to think about anything but getting it done right now. No time for a pity party.

Sent e-mails to everyone on the council and have only heard from Licata (same as above) and Sally Clark. Clark's e-mail was worse, bringing up issues that have already been analyzed independently like the traffic. I facepalmed a few times reading her response.

Still think like always somethng will delay the reveiw and they will make it an election issue somehow, 4 to 6 months out is right around election time. You know how they like to get the anti tax and sports group riled up before an election to keep their office.

I said this on May 23rd and sure as shit here we go. One added note to all this, Chris Hansen is paying the cities legal bills and everything else that has to do with this. Currently they are about 600,000 dollars, so Van Dyke and all the other haters are spending his money to argue against the Arena. Talk about a hypocrosy.

I don't know about the ramifications but if I was Chris Hansen and he already has all the property and right aways as well as permits in place I would shut the City out and see if he can pony up the rest with his group or simply take a few more partners.

The City would get the very minimum as far as taxes and whatever else, would love to see that be the new Pioneer square of Seattle right there in the middle of the complexes. Maybe even call the team Club SuperSonics as much as it would change the ring of Seattle out of it just to make the statement of your not getting any credit for not supporting us.

Just for something different in this long-ass thread, even though it has nothing to do with the thread, except that it's Sonics related. Remember this scene from "Fraiser" where Niles hits the $50K half-court shot at Key Arena? Pretty cool. The rest of the episode was Niles thinking he's some awesome BB player, and Fraiser being all jealous about all the attention Niles is getting. Funny episode with some prime-time Sonics exposure. They did that for the Seahawks and the M's too. I miss that show.

I know this is mostly ridiculous nonsense. But the Seattle Times editorial board recently made their official stance against the arena. Not surprising to anyone who has read any of their pieces leading up, not it's official. And the comment section follows:

http://community.seattletimes.nwsource. ... ction=DESC

For the most part, I generally tell people to ignore the Seattle Times comment sections. There are 6 or so anti-arena zealots who do nothing but crap on the deal morning, noon, and night. A couple of which do so to such extents, that if they aren't being paid by the Port of Seattle, their only excuse is they are insane people. Typically I'd tell you to ignore this loud minority. But in an instance such as this with the Seattle Times editorial board making it's grand statement against the proposal, I implore you to comment. Even if it means registering to do so. We currently have a small handful of arena opponents who do nothing but lie and spread misinformation. They post nonstop all day long. We can't expect to counteract them post for post. But we can beat them in terms of having more posters standing up against them. So please. If you have 5 minutes. Go and post a few words showing your true feelings towards the Seattle Times editorial board as well as your support for Chris Hansen. This isn't nearly as important as emailing the city and county councils. But it is important in terms of showing the public will. Not letting a bought Seattle Times editorial board and 5 Port mafia posters get away with spreading such mass misinformation and blatant lies. Stand up for what you believe in. Stand up for what's right. This is the most embarrassing and despicable case of a lack of journalistic integrity I've seen on a local level. It needs to be challenged. It can't be allowed to go unchecked.

Seattle Times is a great example of why any city as large as Seattle should have two Newspapers, God I miss the Post Intelligencer.

Hope this is just un-founded speculation

Seattle Arena Plan @ArenaSeattle
Sources close to the council have told us that most members are trying to find a way to reject it w/o making them look bad by using I-91.

These folks make all the crap fans take from others when talking about the original team leaving have ton of weight. Just make the vote and stop wasting time. Either do it or get off the pot. None of these folks will lose their seats. They fit the power base of the city. If not them, someone just like them would be sitting making the same claims regarding the deal.

Will keep fighting but these folks are just milking the clock right now if you ask me.

I was just about to post that. What a joke the council is. Good luck ever getting anything done with the key. And I hope if an eventual team does come back to the northwest, it goes to any of the surrounding areas, just so Seattle can watch as all the money the could have had with this deal goes elsewhere. Tools.

That could be a bit of misinformation by supporters to get there to get others stirred up since it's basically been all opposition all the time lately. They need the momentum back.

Whoa, whoa Throwdown. It's not over yet. Wait til it is to swear off the city. You'd be most right to do so. But at least let things totally play out first.

Not sure what to think of that @ArenaSeattle tweet. Not exactly sure what to make of that Twitter account, either. I pay close attention to all this stuff, and that account isn't of any official capacity. Do not confuse it for @SonicsArena, which is the official Chris Hansen account. @ArenaSeattle is just some supporter account. Not sure where they're getting their info from. Pinksheets might be right. It might be them trying to rile people up.

Not that I'd be surprised in the least if it was true. Even if it were, it can only be so many of the council. I know for a fact that there are a couple council members who are fighting for this. So it's not as if there's some sort of group stance right now. We're still in the everyone having their own opinion phase.

One of the more supportive city council members, Mike O'Brien is holding a town meeting with county council member Bob Ferguson:

King County Councilmember Bob Ferguson and Seattle City Councilmember Mike O’Brien will hold a joint town hall meeting on the arena proposal tomorrow:

Tuesday, July 10
7:00 – 8:00 p.m.
North Seattle Community College
Cafeteria, College Center Building
9600 College Way North
Seattle, WA

I'm just as annoyed by crap like the Seattle Times editorial board and the city council as anyone. But trust me. This isn't going away without a serious fight. Keep the faith.

God i swear with all the information missinformation out there throw not suprized ppl are getting confused. I just wish that these councils would come out and atleast clear some crap up even if its one way or another. Saddly that won't happen cause there to damn scared to piss anybody off. So all this information that does get to the public gets so messed up we don't know what to believe. I will say this tho IF they vote this down i will not be spending a dime in that city. I have to pay great amounts to do so just to get there. IF they feel that there really are truely more important things. Then i will and have told all the councilors that not only will i not be spending my dollar in there city. I will make sure that it is known with the ppl in the area that i live. That they too should not do so as well. That franchises such as the sonics are not local anymore but international. And that by not allowing there city to have a basketball/hockey arena. They are cutting themselves out of millions of dollars. And as well hurting the current clubs that they have. Because this is now playing out on an international level. And ppl are now seeing that seattle is not a sports friendly town. And not welcoming to the traveler who would like to see a game there. I know this too be untrue as i have done just that many times and lived there for all of my childhood. But too the ppl who haven't all they here is rain and we don't like sports. So instead of going to seattle to see sports and nature they go to vancouver or other places. I have stressed this to the city and county council. And have recieved no reply so im waiting. Like all of you for there choice. And hope they make the right one.
