If they indeed go back to Vancouver over Seattle then I would have to say that Stern is playing Seattle bigtime and has been disingenous from the get go and has his ego in the way based on how the Mayor and other politicians treated him.

Saying that, it would be way down the road before Seattle gets a NBA team, probably a NHL team first then. We would have to see a changing of the guard as far as Commissioner of the NBA before I would expect eyes to favorably look to Seattle, and god forbid it end up being Clay Bennett.

Yep. With what we have rolling now, if we got passed over for a nearby market, I think we have to read that loud and clear.

I'm hoping it'll end with my dream of one day the seahawks playing in Feb (you know what that means) and the Sonics playing around that time and no more sports droughts from February to August!

I actually do watch a few Sounders games from time to time, root for 'em n all that and get hyped when they score. Its weird though because I have no idea what the hells going on with rules n such, I'm finally starting to get the hang of things though.

Ooooh... a mystery city! Seattle maybe?

But the year-long arena funding negotiation came after the Maloofs agreed to put on hold their exploration of Anaheim as a new home for the team through relocation. Their opponents simply view the latest developments as another stall tactic as the team heads on its way out of town. George Maloof said Monday that one city had reached out to the family over the weekend in an effort to persuade them to move the team. He declined to name the city.

@Smurf

First off I want to say this as one of the biggest soccer/football(international) fans that probably posts on here, I mean no disrespect at all.

I love the Sounders but it's so hard to watch the level of talent in the MLS and I think it's going to be a long time (hopefully 5-10 yrs) before soccer is as big as maybe hockey in the US. The problem is obvious, the lack of money, or should I say the lack of teams being able to spend money. Teams like Seattle, LA, NY that have packed crowds should be rewarded by being able to actually buy good players, but they can't. One or two players does not make a team, anyone knows this. So we get to watch 2 aging stars and a bunch of scrubs aimlessly kick a ball around and hope to put one or two goals in against a bad defense and a bad goalkeeper. I'm not saying that the MLS will ever come near leagues like BPL or SPL, but I'd say that the teams aren't even at the level of the lower leagues in Europe. Also, lets say good American players are developed, they get swiped up by the Euro teams all the time which makes the MLS even weaker. Believe me it pains me to say all this, but I think they need to put more money into the players so the league will get stronger, instead of weaker. I know there's the well LA signed... lets say Robbie Keane argument, but when you lose 20 something young Americans and add a 34 yr old (off the top of my head for Keane's age), that isn't making the league stronger, it is crippling this league because he's maybe a 1-2 yr player. This is why no one takes the MLS or soccer in this country seriously. With all that said, yeah I am a Sounder through and through, I just hope the MLS would get the balls to take a chance and allow real talent to take over this league so other countries would want to watch our matches, not the other way around.

Only cities I can think of are Seattle, Kansas City, and Louisville.

Very interesting.....though I do hope that if the Maloofs do decide to move the Kings that they sell the team to a local owner. I would not feel too great with them as our owners.

Latest article in the Times stated that McGinn offered KeyArena for free, but Hansen said no. Too much congestion traffic-wise when compared to SoundTransit, LightRail, I-5, I-90, and more ways in and out of SoDo.

It makes me sad that KeyArena will be abandoned, but it makes more sense for all the stadiums and arenas to be in one area.

Well the offer was so the City of Seattle could look like they are trying to make things work now. When the Sonics left they would not re negotiate lease terms if I remember correctly. Little Nicky through the Poetry and Ice capades card on the table further adding insult to the situation. Wonder how thats working out for them these days?

Also since Hansen has bought so much land already and is moving forward with his plan anything that the city throws out thats retrothinking is political ass covering.

There's some rumblings about Vancouver as a possible destination. But I'm not sure how much stock I would put into that. Don't think Anaheim will be an option (Lakers, emerging Clippers) I think it comes down to Sacramento, Seattle and KC) the kings were in KC before Sactown. I just have a feeling that the timing of everything is actually in our favor. First Sac had a deal and it was quite on the Seattle front, then Chris Hansen gains momentum, purchases the land, passes the council, fund study, buys more land etc. And all of the sudden the Maloofs have no more deal with Sac. The Phx Coyotes were gonna be sold locally, then not sold...... Conspiracy alert...... What if Hansen and the Maloofs have been working together? I know Hansen is from Seattle but he makes his living in the bay area. Is it Possible Hansen becomes an equal owner of kings with the maloofs to bail them out? I would prefer no maloofs involved but they have repeatedly said they will not sell. Probably far fetched, but it does seem like Hansen has inside track on something goin on. It was Quiet for ever on the arena deal until a month ago, and now things are moving VERY fast. Bring back our Sonics!

I hate that article, because its ignorant. I swear the people who are just focused on the political side of things have no idea about sports.

Pro does not mean major, how hard is that not to understand?

the Mariners and Seahawks are the only teams I can really honestly say are MAJOR sports teams. MLS you can make an arguement in both directions so I'd say its a middle of the road right now and could go either way in expanding its following at this time, but I personally woulnd't put it on the level of the NFL, MLB, or NBA.

Mariners, Seahawks, Sonics, NHL team, Sounders would be 5, I think those that like the Storm are a different breed of fan personaly, I could see that team taking the harder hit in fan support. If all teams are doing well and I mean hitting playoffs and such then everyone gets their seats filled.

It's when they suck AKA the Mariners at the moment is when options can pull a fan base farther away. Mariners had just over 10k last night I read. I think it keeps club ownership accountable by not being the only game in town.
