Execution is definitely a big part of playing good football, but it's not everything; and an offensive coordinator's JOB is to recognize and adjust when his guys CAN'T execute for any given reason.
I'm completely serious about having bitched about play calling last year, by the way.
I think there's a valid point to what you're saying. Don't just look at the score and assess whether the team won or not, whether or not they ran up the score. Watch the game. (Also, there are professional football players on the other side of the ball game-planning against your schemes, too - which can tend to make it look even less perfect - to say the least.) Otherwise, we commit the same thing the NFL media has done (moreso before this year) in disparaging the Hawks by merely looking at the score or stats and making their blind, largely ignorant assessments. So, I'll agree Roland shouldn't be accused of that.
I'm not exactly against Bevell. I think the Hawks could do a lot worse. I love how this team throws the ball down field... a lot. I don't think they did that enough against Indy, but that starts with protection up front.
Here's a thought (and I know it's obvious), but I wonder how much of the offensive strategy was planned to work with Percy Harvin in the lineup? I love Doug Baldwin and he's a great player. But, maybe they're not exactly running Percy plays right now. They don't want other teams to be able to game plan for what they'll see WITH Percy. So, we're seeing an offense getting by in the meantime that is missing that spice that will kick it up a notch? Meaning, maybe the offense was more significantly redesigned to fully function with Percy. Again, I know this is being Capt obvious that PH potentially brings an injection of life. I'm just saying that perhaps we need to see the season's body of work instead of select game examples when drawing our conclusions about Bevell and the 2013 Seahawks' offensive strategy.
