Actually, Dom, I was. Even before we had our hot streak. Ask anybody who is and was a regular through that time in the .NET live chat. Execution is definitely a big part of playing good football, but it's not everything; and an offensive coordinator's JOB is to recognize and adjust when his guys CAN'T execute for any given reason.

I'm completely serious about having bitched about play calling last year, by the way.

I think there's a valid point to what you're saying. Don't just look at the score and assess whether the team won or not, whether or not they ran up the score. Watch the game. (Also, there are professional football players on the other side of the ball game-planning against your schemes, too - which can tend to make it look even less perfect - to say the least.) Otherwise, we commit the same thing the NFL media has done (moreso before this year) in disparaging the Hawks by merely looking at the score or stats and making their blind, largely ignorant assessments. So, I'll agree Roland shouldn't be accused of that.

I'm not exactly against Bevell. I think the Hawks could do a lot worse. I love how this team throws the ball down field... a lot. I don't think they did that enough against Indy, but that starts with protection up front.

Here's a thought (and I know it's obvious), but I wonder how much of the offensive strategy was planned to work with Percy Harvin in the lineup? I love Doug Baldwin and he's a great player. But, maybe they're not exactly running Percy plays right now. They don't want other teams to be able to game plan for what they'll see WITH Percy. So, we're seeing an offense getting by in the meantime that is missing that spice that will kick it up a notch? Meaning, maybe the offense was more significantly redesigned to fully function with Percy. Again, I know this is being Capt obvious that PH potentially brings an injection of life. I'm just saying that perhaps we need to see the season's body of work instead of select game examples when drawing our conclusions about Bevell and the 2013 Seahawks' offensive strategy.

Century - I am in total agreement with you. The final score is often deceiving as far as indicating what really happened in a game. A lot of people here have bitched about how so many people in the media base their "analysis" off of simply reading stat lines and box scores, yet a lot of people do the same thing here when it comes to offensive play calling. "Well, it works, why are you bitching?" I'm bitching because I see problems. Just because you were able to drive from home to work with your engine making a weird sound and stuttering doesn't mean you shouldn't get it looked into, for crying out loud.

Also, I would like to reiterate that I don't hate Bevell, nor do I think he is a bad offensive coordinator. My problem with him is that he tends to be extremely hot and cold. he has had some brilliant halves of games. It's the inconsistency, the "well, that was a mind-bogglingly stupid 3-and-out, and damn 5 minutes later, that's ANOTHER dumb 3-and-out" followed by a 90-yard TD drive where we barely even had to face a 3rd down that drives me crazy sometimes.

I also think that some people are assuming that because we had a 3-and-out, I think the play calling was dumb. That is not it at all. Sometimes I see play calls that fail horribly, but that I liked and thought was the right move. I also see some play calls that I think were dumb, but ended up working out well. I am not just blindly screaming "IT DINT WURK, SO TEH PLAY CALLL SUX!!!1", but I get the impression some people think that's how I'm reacting to it.

I get the points about our team's offense at present being called differently than what we'll see when Percy gets in the lineup. That may well be the case. But if so, why did Marshawn get like 4 carries total in the 2nd half last week? Sure the Colts played the run better early in that half but with a guy like Beast and a patchwork o-line that has at least shown a bit of ability to run block, he's getting 12-15 carries if I'm calling plays. OK, maybe 8-10 and then if they've shut it down fine, we'll throw the ball more often.

Again, I'm not a Darrell basher but some of this stuff I find rather curious.

I dont complain about Bevel. Maybe you do but I dont.

I think when players execute correctly the plays work. When they dont a bunch of people around here bitch about Bevel. Just last year he was a head coaching candidate.

He doesnt all of the sudden suck.
But that's just it. The players we have out there aren't executing, and Bevell needs to realize that he's putting too much on them.
