You can never predict what might happen in an individual game, of course, but over the long haul good pitching beats good hitting. Over a 7 game series the Seahawks pitching staff is superior to Toronto's and the offense is not that great of a difference either way.

With 2 games in the books as wins, and returning home where the M's have a much better HFA than the Seahawks (sorry couldn't resist ), you gotta like our chances.

Hmmm, maybe they're not that bad. But do they have 4 front line starters? And I'd hazard to guess that our bullpen is superior, especially in how many leverage arms we have. We have 3, at least and maybe 4.

I'll take our pitching staff, all of it, against Toronto any day.

Joking aside, I agree with @sutz that 'our' pitching staff is heads and shoulders above the Jays, and that in the long run, good pitching beats good hitting.

I see where we've named the starters for Games 3 (Kirby) and Game 4 (Castillo), so I'm left wondering what the deal is with Woo. Is he fully healthy and ready to go, that Wilson is just being cautious or 'saving' him for a Game 5, 6, or 7 if necessary, or is there something else going on with his health that we're not being told about?

When Dan Wilson was hired as our manager, I was concerned that we were hiring him based mostly on the fact that he was a former Mariner and very good former player and not so much for his managerial skills. It was the same concern I expressed when Seahawk fans were talking about hiring Jim Zorn, that it was driven by a sentimental notion rather than logic.

But so far, I've been very pleased with Dan Wilson. As a former catcher, he knows how to manage a pitching staff, and as a former player and very successful one at that, he has a certain degree of credibility with his players. He knows what they're going through because he's been there himself.

So yeah, a big thumbs up for Dan Wilson. I trust him and the decisions he has to make.

Great idea! I could also see DW playing it safe and saving him for the Dodgers [should we be fortunate enough to get that far]. Had to throw that qualifier in to cover my ass and appease the jinx gods.

Wilson has done a better job than Schneider so far. Schneider gave the Mariners a gift when he lifted Gausman in game one, and Yesavage yesterday. Both pitchers had low pitch counts and were doing well, and the Blue Jays' bullpen isn't that great.

Schneider's also been criticized for other decisions, like not walking Cal in game one:

Up until recently, he is VERY bad with a pitching staff. Choosing to let Kirby pitch to Carpenter, again, cost them game 1.
Although the ump screwed Kirby out of strike 3 before that HR.
