It says in that article that Cal tried to warn him, but didn't want to distract him. I'm not sure what that means. Cal warned him, but wasn't clear enough or blunt enough? Cal tried to warn him, but Munoz didn't understand what Cal was trying to tell him? What? Seems like there's more to the story, because that's pretty vague.
Yeah, who knows. Seahawks and then see what the M's plan for next year is.

Here is the sad thing about the history of this series and the game 7. The winning runs were scored by a home run hit by George Springer. Unlike all of the other historic game changing and defining hits in moments like this -- Springer is going to always be remembered for cheating at baseball. Even though it is highly unlikely he cheated at all in that moment, it will be diminished versus things like the Edgar Double, solely because the fans of Major League Baseball believe he and all of the Astros involved in cheating should have been banned for life as punishment.

So before the Jays fans on the board get up in arms against me for this -- I want to be clear that I do not think he cheated in this moment at all and I do believe he deserves to be credited for the great contribution -- I am just saying that over the long term, not many people will give him the credit he would have gotten had he never cheated. After watching this series and seeing the M's go against this guy -- I am surprised he would have cheated at all. He is a great hitter and great player. History, unfortunately, will not be on his side on this -- and he has only himself and his choices to blame for that.

I’m not blaming Julio, but that was really a disappointing
At bat to end the game. With a full count with Cal on deck,
We needed base runners anyway. To swing at that pitch low
And a mile outside was ridiculous. He didn’t need to be the hero,
Just get on base. If it was close to the strike zone I could see
Him protecting the plate. But it made him look silly with that
Desperate swing.

I would have rode Kirby 5 or 6 innings or more then Woo until the 9th for Munoz.

Kirby was pulled at 60 something pitches with a 3-1 lead. Dan managed this game like it wasn't a game 7. I think Servais would have managed the pitching better tonight. I mean really what's the reason to pull Kirby when he was dealing? I hate to put most blame on a first year manager but....I am.
Woo should've been pulled after the first runner got on & went to Munoz for 1 or 2 innings. Then try to close it out with Spier/Brash. The game was on the line in the 7th & he should've made them beat their best guy available right there & then the best of what's left in the 9th. Didn't we see Munoz get something like 5 or 6 outs in a game in the Detroit series? It's just frustrating because with rest until Friday, the M's could've re-sent their rotation & added Woo in there. I think they could've beaten the Dodgers with a rested staff.

Commiserations to all Mariners fans. I was barracking for them, although I have never before even taken notice of MLB. But just so near and so far - it's absolutely gut wrenching for people who have been fans for their whole lives, in many cases.
I watched a bit of the final game, but I don't really know anything about the game, apart from the utter basics.

Being Australian, I of course love cricket... which does sort-of "equal" baseball I suppose, as a summer sport. Lots of lore and statistics in the former, of which I know nothing about in the latter.

I immediately turned the tv off after the last out and haven't posted since. I really thought this was the year we exorcised the demons of decades of failure. But no, we have more of it to swallow. Will we be able to add some some clutch hitting and keep our best players from leaving? Lots of unknowns, and it can go either way. Bottom line, this was it, this was our big chance, we had the lead and were six outs away and we blew it. Again. And this is why I was reluctant to even watch any of the games and get invested in it again. I've been an M's fan since the 80's, and I can't handle much more of the constant disappointment...

But I must say that the difference between regular season baseball and playoff baseball is more extreme to me than it is in the other team sports. It's an experience we don't get much of as M's fans, the literal hanging of every pitch, every personnel move, every man left on base, etc... It was nice to be part of that kind of drama again. But as it's been said, the closer you get to claiming the Grail, the harder it is when you fall short.

Nah, I'll be back next year, ready to roll. And doing a hell of a lot less of the claiming they are done, etc. They proved me and most others wrong, several times.
This is NOT the "same old mariners" at all. If people choose to not watch a sport because they may be disappointed? Good luck with that.
But there's nothing wrong with however a person chooses to follow a team. We all have our own way. Sports are entertainment. They gave me a lot of entertainment. The rollercoaster was a blast. I'll always remember this season. Coming very close, it doesn't mean you won't or can't be right back in the same position next year. I choose to believe. The Hawks were on the brink when they lost in Atlanta, look what happened the next season.
Welcome to sports. Anything can happen. I've never wanted a team to win more than I did on Monday night.
