I'm just as sick of these Harvin threads as the next guy, but I had a thought tonight and wanted to run it past you. I read a report that said that Harvin came in today feeling great and optimistic about this week at practice. Does that not make any of you scratch your head? Everything worked out great, we won big, we didn't need Percy Harvin, but what if we had? Doesn't it make you sort of question what the heck is going on if #11 is feeling good one day after our biggest game of the year?

Harvin was pillaged by the Minnesota media and beat writers for his ailments, missed practices, ect...It's been said by many that it's clear that Harvin doesn't enjoy practicing.

Here's my thought: Perhaps the front office made a decision internally that says if he doesn't get in at least a few good practices during the week, he doesn't play? This would set a precedence for his whole tenure here and not create dissension from other players.

I have a feeling Percy wanted to play last night, and it was the coaching staff that said he wasn't playing, not Percy.

Interesting but absolutely no proof of a possibility.

They aren't trying to rush Harvin back because they don't need to and they shouldn't. This isn't hard to understand... is it?

It seems to be hard to digest for some.

He also had a cortisone shot over the weekend. Maybe that had something to do with him feeling better?

I've read the same thing and it does make me wonder. Two things to shoot a hole in that theory at this moment:

1. he just got a cortisone shot. That generally makes you feel better. hell, players got the shot, and went back into games injured to keep playing. So, no, it doesn't surprise me that "all of the sudden" Harvin feels good. He obviously came back a bit too early, and earlier than most estimates had him.

2. From what we've read, most players say we have the most fun practices in the NFL. Not only is it a good and positive environment, but per the new CBA, there is much less contact allowed at practices than in the past. You aren't going to get beat up anymore, at least as badly. The worst thing of it is probably the physical conditioning, and Harvin has never been one to shy away from that. Even when he missed practices from his migraines, he never got out of shape from it.

I like the thought and in fact mentioned something similar in another thread. I don't think you're right but that's another subject or thread. Sorry Radish.:)

We haven't needed him all season, do we need him at all?

That's like saying you have functional vehicles, but don't drive the Lambo you bought specifically for it's speed and handling. Let it just sit there so you can stare at it and say you have one.

I dunno about the rest of you but I like how we are playing right now. I don't want one of those things to happen where a star player comes in and disrupts the flow and consistency of the team. But what do i know.

I'm not saying we shouldn't use him if he's available, but do we need him? I didn't think we did before we acquired him (ask Wenhawk & T-Sizzle ;) ) and I don't think so now. Sure would be fun to have him out there though!

Not a lot it seems. He definitely puts us at a whole other level and I assume even you can see that? Wilson plus Harvin is completely on par with Montana/Young and Rice. Probably better given they're both 25 years old.

For the record, I don't neccissarily agree with the hypothesis of my original post but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to think that they haven't made an interal decision that he doesn't play if he doesn't practice a nearly full week.

I think, even if it's not the case, it makes a lot of sense and fits in with the mentality of our organization.

I get what you are saying. I meant what you said in your last sentence. We never needed him, however, since we have him I want to see what that speedy sucker can do for us. Watching that KR he did for us against MN was awesome. I never realized how fast he was until I saw it live at the game. I'm curious who is faster, Harvin or ET.

I think Harvin at full speed, in this offense, at this point in the season will be almost unfair to the rest of the league. And I'm all for it. I would imagine Harvin at 100% is a faster sprinter than ET but true football speed would be hard to determine between the 2. Aren't we lucky. :179417:

Yea, I almost feel bad for the rest of the league once Harvin is fully integrated into the team. My god, it's still weird to have this much faith in our team, takes some getting used to

Agree or not, you don't deserve to be blasted for posing the question. I sure hope when Percy hits the "I'm in" sign, his ass means it. If we're paying him what Baldwin and Tate would make combined, he better be all in.

I do have another theory on Harvin:
Harvin is fit, but we just don't want the rest of the league to have any film material on how we are going to use him to destroy them on the way to the SB.
Right now, NO team knows how to prepare for Harvin (if he plays). They don't know if we will line him up in the backfield, as a receiver, in the slot ... and with his speed, if they play him one on one on the outside, ... etc.
If we get the #1 seed, we only need two wins at home to get to New York. There is no need for us to give other teams films on Harvin. I feel sorry for opposing Defensive Coordinators ...
