Would we feel different if the season had not started 3-0? I was excited for this season of change and fully expected some rough games with new coaches, new approaches, and new culture. Admittedly, when they started 3-0, even with lower competition to start, my expectations changed. I think that’s natural honestly. We all crave a return to dominance but you can’t expect to turn the titanic like a jet ski. It takes time. This season more properly should be viewed as a season of evaluation, learning, adjustment, and then an offseason of real change. If the offseason sees the coaching staff get more players that match the schemes they want to run, a year of experience for the new coaches and coordinators, a draft that comes after a full season of working with the current roster and pin pointing the needed changes for the future and they still have issues without progression forward, THEN it’s time to ask if it’s the philosophy or coaching in my opinion. I just think if we had lost 1 then won 1 rather than start out feeling top of the division at 3-0 only to lose 4 of the next 5, maybe it would have allowed a more realistic framing of where this team is going to be this year. I firmly believe in life that nothing is ever as good as it feels or bad as it seems in the moments. In the overall picture we are who are right now. A .500 team that has made mistakes and needs to grow. But I still prefer this to the predictable .500 we had become under Pete. We are still tied in the division with 5 of 6 divisional games left so maybe we step back from the cliff long enough to enjoy the view and what I believe will be a great ascent back to a top NFL team. It’s just not going to happen as quickly as we wanted and the 3-0 start may have something to do with that. That’s all.
