The guy I like to call "Corned Beef" (because Rubin ---> Reuben, sandwich with Corned Beef), looks like he can play some lunch-pail football.

Very underrated signing. I think he is a better addition to the team than Kevin Williams was last year.

With all these names we currently have on our 90+, I see why PC feels this is the deepest we've been. Very nice.

I've not seen him in person, but by all accounts the dude is enormous. He has his own moon, I'm told.

Looks like somebody sewed legs to his shoulders, and called them arms

There are two #74 on the team.

G/C Will Pericak and DL Julius Warmsley.

Pericak is white.

The 6-2 Warmsley looks well above his listed weight of 276.

His nickname is "TUBA" or big tuba.

I hope he sticks around on a reasonable salary and makes Mcdaniel expendable.

I didn't get this signing. Rubin is very slow at reacting against the run, almost nothing like Mebane or Williams, and does not provide that much upside as a pass rusher.

Seems like he could clog up the middle all by himself...

I was thinking this might be the case, was too lazy to investigate further.

Thanks for the info.

I like him. Holmgren absolutely raved about he guy. I think he's got a good shot to get the second most snaps at DT for us. Any idea what position we have him playing mainly?

Well, John Schneider gets the signing and all he does is build super bowl teams. Do you get it now?

Not really because Rubin has played so poorly over the last few years. And, of course, not every decision Schneider/Carroll have made has succeeded, i.e. Harvin, Flynn, Gallery, Jones, etc. I always look for an independent reason for these kind of signings.

They must have felt like they needed a veteran presence at the position to replace Williams, and maybe they felt Rubin was the best available of the cheaper veteran options. I hope he returns to form and has a career year for us, though I am concerned about his lack of quickness, inability to disengage, and his recent tendency to take plays off.

I believe his play fell off because they went to a 3-4 and he didn't fit in that scheme. The 4-3 we play fits his game a lot better.

Browns have been playing a 3-4 since 2013, I think, and Rubin was mostly playing the five technique at Left End. Last year, he was tasked with playing more inside at NT and had one of the worst seasons against the run of any player in the league. He looked straight up slow and incapable of reading the run or disengaging from blockers. It was pretty bad.

Mike Holmgren, who was the GM in Cleveland from 2010-2012, told KJR's Ian Furness yesterday that he's very high on his former player. "They should sign him," he said. "He's a great football player. I can't believe Cleveland is letting him out of there."

By most accounts, Rubin had a down 2014 season as he battled an ankle injury but his 2013 season was strong.

...... a monster lineman who was both a good player and a leader of his position group eventually. Rubin was a guy who helped the Browns a lot and was one of the revelations for the Browns in an otherwise sketchy draft history. You don’t expect sixth round picks to end up playing 99 games for you over seven seasons amassing more than 200 tackles as an interior lineman in both the 4-3 and 3-4 defenses, depending on who was coach the given year.

Remember that Rubin played for Romeo Crennel, Eric Mangini, Pat Shurmur, Rob Chudzinski and Mike Pettine all over the course of a seven year career. I’m sorry to see him go and I will always wish him well as it was a joy to have him on the Browns since 2008.
