NFL network reporting that the deal gives Darnold $37.5 million in year one. I assume most of that is going to be a signing bonus that spreads the cap out. I’d guess the total cap of this contract will be somewhere in the $15-$18 million dollar range. Leaving a net of $13-$16 million in extra cap from Geno leaving.

Geno have any 14-3 seasons to compare "laterally"? I think this is an upgrade. Maybe not franchise QB upgrade but the contract agrees with that. This is a 3 year commitment to let Sam have a stable organization and build an Offense around him. He's money in play action and Kubiak leads the league in calling play action. That will be great news for Walker and Charbs too. We just Oline and another WR threat and I'll be super happy so far.

Put this in another thread that will prob get deleted...

He's now a hawk, so I'll support this until I have a viable reason not to. Cautiously optomistic, but would like a QB in 25/26 draft with strong potential.

This is a downgrade and really means that JS has to upgrade OL or else this is a big problem.

Geno and Darnold are incredibly similar. But now we have a third round pick, more cap space, and got younger.

Yup. No matter if you were pro Geno or anti Geno he wanted to leave or get big money to stay. We need the cap money to get our line fixed. This deal allows for that.

Not saying he will but he still has not signed. We cannot sign talk about him as if he’s signing here but those reporting he has signed are posting things that just aren’t factual. Let’s keep it factual

O-Line has to be the whole focus now. Geno was vaguely mobile and still got pummelled. Darnold is a statue.
Is he? I hope he can scramble a bit and navigate an imperfect pocket.
