I was assured that we could never find anyone good in the first round and it was allllll a crapshoot and expect nothing good because JS does his best work in the later rounds … that we traded away.

It’s not the player it’s the draft picks, contract and leverage. I don’t dislike the player or position.

Who assured you of that? Certainly wasn't me so I have no idea why you would respond to my post with that comment. But since you did, you might want to go have a look at our last 5 1st round picks. All 5 of them are starters for us, all 5 of them are "good" at the very least, and at least a couple of them are waaay better than just good.

JS has been doing a really good job lately with both draft picks and trades. We're sitting at 6-2, and tied for the best record in the NFC. We are currently being talked about in the national sports media as possibly the best team in the NFC and maybe even the league. This is after a pretty major overhaul to our offense just last off season. That doesn't happen unless your GM is doing a really good job overall.

You are more than welcome to fret over "losing" a couple of mid round picks. I think it's a good move and I'm perfectly happy to use those picks to acquire a good player right now that could help make this team better this season.

The only, and I mean ONLY, reservation I have with this trade is that our rooks looked so damn good in this last game. I'm asking myself, do we really need another receiver to add to the stable when Horton, White, and Arroyo looked so solid?

I answer myself, if Kubiak feels the rooks aren't ready to carry the load, and wants to add someone he knows well to the stable, then I guess the answer is yes, we do really need this guy.

Not for the first time (more like the 100th time), I will say that I feel that acquiring him is :

1.) Insurance in case Kupp gets more hobbled
2.) Protection for Horton so as he's not too pressured in his rookie year to be WR2

It also takes away valuable developmental time from Horton, so there is that, but I pretty much addressed that when I answered my own question.

It also eliminates a single point of failure in Horton being your only speed threat to stretch the field. If he goes down you lose part of your playbook without someone that can also fill that role.

They've likely been trying to find someone for that ever since they let MVS go... That's why they were bringing in guys like Velus Jones Jr. Rashid is a more permanent fix.

I wonder if the fact that the Colts brought in Gardner play into this decision at all? We are definitely going to have to scheme around him.

I do recall last year that when Darnold (with the Vikings) faced him, he didn't do so well even when he was facing the Jets (with Sauce there).

Hopefully with the addition of Shaheed, he won't have as much trouble.

BTW, Corbin of Seahawks Forever must have some connections 'cause he said in the above vid at around 2:32 :
One of the deals that Rob Rang and I proposed last week on the show was

Cesar Ruiz and Rasheed Shahed coming over from the Saints. It turns out the Seahawks did not make a move for Ruiz

here. I was told that the cost there was just more than they were willing to pay and they kind of moved off that.

Interesting to hear that the Hawks were interested in Cesar Ruiz.

I like Horton and Arroyo a lot, but they've got 13 receptions in 8 games so far. 5 of those have been touchdowns for Horton, so he gets the plaudits, but outside the redzone he isn't a factor yet.

One thing they definitely aren't doing is forcing schematic changes by the defense. Shaheed's going to do that.

So I was never sold on our WR corps this year, and like others have pointed out, I saw MVS as evidence that John and Mike weren't either. It could be a whole new offense now, though.

Ruiz might have been in play if McCoy hadn't torn his biceps (Or McCoy might have been available)

Totally agree. My only point was that we saw something out of them in this game that we hadn't previously. It looked like they were starting to show in a way that would force teams to adjust.

Clearly there is a part of our offensive game plan that hasn't been unlocked. Looking forward to seeing what that is.

Seattle isn't going to overpay so that John saves face

Cmon now

You could also just as easily argue he'll love winning and the culture and give us a fair deal to stay

You don't know so defaulting to doom and gloom is lame
Jamal Adams was made the highest paid defensive player in the league because Seattle didn’t have a choice.

I took no LB deal as a sign Jones knee won't keep him out very long at all. I know we don't know if they were active or not but I take no deal as a good sign for Jones.
Four to six weeks, is how long Jones will be out. Most likely put him on IR and see if he is good to go in four weeks
