Very simply the problem I have with this trade is it reminds me of the Jamal Adams trade. You do not trade for a player who is going to be an upcoming free agent without renegotiating a contract PRIOR to the trade. Once the season is over, his agent knows that Seattle had given up a fourth and fifth round pick for him and will demand a higher price tag from Seattle, knowing they would not want to have egg on their face to let him walk. I negotiate for a living and would never take the approach that Schneider takes on these trades.

Except I can safely say that Shaheed will give us far more return on our investment than Jamal Adams did.

We traded a 4th for Jones and it worked out fine.

Again, the issue is these agents are not dumb and they know that if you give up draft capital to acquire your player in the final year of their contract, the team will not want to have egg on their face if they are unable to retain him. Hence, the agent has much more leverage in getting more money for the player.

A lot of fans WAY overvalue mid round draft picks, imo. I'm more than happy to trade a 4th and a 5th for a guy that is statistically a top 20-25 WR in the league right now.

Perhaps they are happy to see how the player works out and if he does they are happy to pay him.
