This game was to me never truly in doubt from the very beginning but it was a tale of two half's. The first half the team was totally dominant in every phase save for that ridiculous option pass fail with Cooper Kupp. The 2nd half was sloppy dumb football with dumb and too many penalties and ball security issues that were at times inexplicably bad. The D however maintained their clear dominance over a Houston O that was struggling to get anything going. It was those penalties and some dumb mistakes that allowed Houston to close to an 8 point deficit when it should have been at least a 3 score clear dominating W.
I believe that anytime you turn over the ball 4 times you usually lose. That seemed mostly irrelevant when critically assessing the game save for allowing Houston to hang around by dumb sloppy play.
Do believe Darnold will need to think hard on ball security going forward as he was a large part of the problem and a large part of the team's early dominance.
Sloppy play but still a W and any W is a good thing.
Yep. He needs more of the latter and NONE of the former.
He is in a position to change the narrative of his career outlook forever but he can't do that if he's having plays like he did last night (the bad INT and the fumble in the endzone).
That said, he did just enough to get the win and I'll take it.
But I fully expect that sh*t to be cleaned up these next two weeks.
