So the seahawks are playing a game Sunday and Thursday as we all know. I see this game Sunday as important, but not as important as Thursday. I think they will be very careful with injuries, and push players to Thursday if there is a question if they should play Sunday. It got me to thinking that every team hates this option. Here is a few reasons why.
1. More injuries on Thursdays after Sunday games. Less time to recover from Sunday for the next game.
2. Sloppy play. Let's be real the games on Thursday are not usually good. The players are tired, not recovered and there is less time for game planning.
3. After the Thursday game there is nothing to look forward to for the weekend, team wise. Its like a bye week after the game.
How can if be fixed? (My understanding may be wrong on some small things)
So in the past each team had a Thursday game after a Sunday game. Since the schedule was made before the season starts later scheduled games would suck. Two non playoff teams would play with no impacts on anything. Viewership suffered.
They changed it to flex games. Teams can have 2 Thursday games. Ugh. Its scheduled for 28 teams to have Thursday games and 4 teams for international games. That flex will change things.
So how do they fix this?
It should not be that hard. Eliminate the flex. Give each team a bye week BEFORE the the Thursday game. Advertise the heck out of the game. Make it a bowl game, with a separate trophy per week. Offset the bye weeks. How? Let teams have an early Thursday bye and a late standard bye and visa versa. Although it's hard to figure what the mid season teams will do.
This would give players more time to recover, and should lead to less injuries.
Coaches could actually game plan. The games would be extremely competitive and every team would have an equal plain of competition.
Imagine the buildup and anticipation for this bowl game. I think it would be something to look forward to.
