Times have changed. Sixty plus yard field goals are becoming more of the norm. Man these guys are booting the ball a long long ways. Getting just past the fifty yard line gets you in field goal range. This changes the game big time.

We don’t have one of those kickers

We also play more than half our games outdoors and a lot of games at sea level. I’m not sure a dude consistently kicking 60 burgers in a dome would have the same luck on a rainy and windy Seattle afternoon.

The funny thing is I feel more relaxed when Myers is kicking a 51 yarder than I do when he is kicking a 41 yarder.

He does seem to be better on the long ones than the short ones. Can't say as I have any stats that back that, it's like you said, just a feeling.

Yeah but that ball looked like a Tornado got a hold of it and pushed it to the left considerably.

I think it was a combo of the wind and our kicker not kicking it accurately enough.

Thankfully, it didn't come back to bite us but I still have confidence in him.

That grass was really rough looking too. Placement might not have been easy there. Plus 80 degrees = thin air, so the ball flies differently.

But you can 't let him go, his kick offs are perfect with the new rule. He plunks them down behind the 20 almost every time.

Pittsburgh is a notoriously tough place to kick FG in too. The winds swirl inside.
I'm not sure which direction it is and if Meyers was kicking in that direction, but that stadium has a notorious reputation for missed kicks at one end of the field.

It's the first FG or XP that Meyers has missed this season. He's 1-2 from 30-39, 1-1 40-49, 1-1 at 50+. and 5-5 on XP's. I'm not too worried. We have bigger fish to fry.

Yes we do. Myers has hit from 60+. His problem is missing too many gimmies from closer in, like even Ex Pt attempts.

It's not a position I want to mess with unless his form falls off a cliff and so far he's generally been fine/good. Same with punters and long snappers, you don't think much about them until you get a bad one.

Blair Walsh still scars me after years of Hauschka being clutch. Hauschka was still solid at the Bills after he left us. Then you see the 49ers issues. It's such a hard position to judge. You see lots of good college kickers struggle in the NFL, a lot due to the mental pressure. I'm sure that Tennessee kicker in the Georgia game hits all the fgs in practice and 99% of the time in games but when it came to him having t9 score the winning fg he looked absolutely terrified and missed.

There's a couple of elite guys - Aubrey and Boswell come to mind.

But beyond having one of the best of the best; there's something to be said for having someone steady and solid (which is how I would classify Myers). Moving off of Myers would be dumb, in that it would be creating an issue where there isn't one. And the next guy could very well end up being an Aguayo or Moody type.

I don't feel that we're far enough removed from it that people should be forgetting the messy kicking situation that we lived through between Hauschka and Myers.
