I am not getting into the stats but there is a VERY small chance Darnold starts all 17 games this year. Lock is a back up/Fill in guy... nothing more.

Mil-dogg will be starting this year and dominating. He is the exact replica of a young Russell, but faster.

Let’s see how the summer/preseason goes. Carrying three quarterbacks costs another unit a roster spot. There’s a chance Lock doesn’t make it.

I'm sure when we signed Lock, we knew we were wasting a pick on Milsuck as a condition of the bet we presumably lost. I would assume the plan is to use three roster spots on QBs, in spite of only one of them being sort of good. Not sure what position that will take from.

and he is 5'11 w/o a strong arm
Whoever thought this, hasn't watched him play. Perhaps he doesn't have the arm to show off in pro-day/ combine type settings?

I've seen roughly half of his college games.

He doesn't have quite the arm that Mahomes had, but he's no slouch. (Mahomes is my reference as the last college QB I was personally able to watch who I figured would have NFL success)

On the field, Mellott just made plays, in a very Mahomes-esque style. Nice deep ball. Solid touch passes. Outlandish throws.

Of course it's his ability to run and evade that make him such a threat. I agree, given his size, he probably shouldn't be considered for NFL QB, based on his arm talent alone. However, as a whole package, I think he is worth a late round flyer.

Maybe so, most NFL QB draftees do ultimately fail. I mean you've had a decades-long front row seat to that given Ohio State's sorry NFL QB pipeline. If you're wrong though, we all win.

Milroe and Howard were the two QBs I specifically talked about beforehand not wanting at any point in the draft.

Can we trust Joe Montana as he claimed that arm strength were overrated as in Montana's own words: Most high school QB can throw the ball 50 yards or so. I can see why ball velocity could be a factor as it takes less time for the ball to travel the distance, that said, it only gives that tiny bit of time for the QB to decide much to the dismay of OL.

The Raiders themselves said Mellott is going to be a receiver.

I'm aware, and it comports with my pre-draft assessment of him that, even if he doesn't pan out at QB, he would make a hell of a receiver, with the added benefit of playing the Taysom Hill role on occasion. The Raiders are pretty loaded at QB, so bringing him in as a receiver is solid. I wouldn't count him completely out of taking a backup role down the line.

I'm aware. That was my pre-draft take on him. He went right about where I thought he should.

Another good point. Not sure how the concept of Mellott having a weak arm came into the lore, nor am I sure how much it matters. He is extremely smart. 4.0 GPA in engineering. Very quick to read and process. He somehow gets the ball where it needs to go. I think the Raiders are perfect for him. If he has it in him to become a NFL QB, I think Pete will recognize it, and allow him to develop.

I'm not saying he's a guaranteed success at NFL QB, just that his potential at the position is/ was worth a late round flyer, knowing that 99.9% of late round flyer QBs never pan out.

Milroe is gonna go off in preseason. It will be a ton of fun to watch him show off his athleticism against vanilla defenses. What else is going to happen once he goes off, is that we are going to see a QB controversy erupt on dot net. Then any mistake perceived or real that Darnold makes in the regular season will be amplified by the shouts for Milroe.
I don’t know, I think this crowd here is more mature than that 🤔. I think most of us have a little patience 😉

Just statistically speaking, it probably won't work out. Maybe one QB from this class really makes it, and it's anybody's guess (from any round) who it's going to be. I've heard some post-draft positivity around Howard, and it could be him. I think everybody is just hopeful that it's us...because if it is, we're genuinely set for a long time with his ability to move. We're the only team right now holding this particular lottery ticket.
