If that line was horrible, then wtf was ours? And if ours was orders of magnitude worse than theirs, why all the hemming ang hawing about Geno's performance.
But here, dont argue with me:
If you dont wanna read the end one, here's the important part:
'The offensive line looked like a strength for much of the year. ESPN's pass block win rate had the Vikings second this season at 70%. However, most of the struggles the Vikings had came after that 2.5-second mark at which ESPN grades pass block win rate.
How much of it is really on the offensive line? Of the six sacks that happened in the first half, two of them came before 4.4 seconds, with all of them taking at least 3.2 seconds to get home.
You can argue that the Vikings need a better offensive line and you'd be right. However, how much of it is truly on the offensive line when head coach Kevin O'Connell is trying to continuously generate explosives? '
Much of the perception that the Vikings line was 'horrible' came over the last 2 games. Prior to that, they were better than average by a good bit in pass pro for the season.
And why were they so bad? It wasnt JUST the O -line, and McConnel bringing in new players is as much a defense of his questionable play calling in the playoffs as anything else. And the play calling failed in part because of McConnels insisting on hitting explosives, which was part scheme, and part a result of having a qb who doesnt have a quick passing game and NEEDS pocket time to hit PA.
Fact is, their line was decent and one of the better lines for the majority of the season. That they tried to get better and think they found pieces to do so doesnt change that. You cant be 'great' with decent pieces.
But yeah. Keep on boiling it down to basic logic and ignore the bigger picture. It will work until the season starts and 'Ginger' shows you first hand why the Vikes line went from decent to garbage over the last 2 games.
You'd think that with the experience of Russ making every line he's ever played behind look loke garbage, that folks would start to 'get it'.
