Sam Howell isn't quite there yet but I feel he is not that far off and I think Geno senses his time is coming to an end. Macdonald isn't committed to Geno past this season and Geno is one injury away from Mike seeing what Howell can do. Mike is high on youth and if Howell can keep on making mistake free strides in his development, the spot light on Geno will quickly dim.

Hes just regretting his contract now that he sees qb contracts skyrocket quickly.
I can't blame him per say, but at the time it was still worthy numbers for a qb of his "status"

I believe Geno has more leverage than fans think. Macdonald isn't going to get fired if he goes 6-11 this year, but given that he's a huge unknown in this business, he likely still feels considerable pressure to get his head coaching tenure off to a strong start. Geno is unquestionably the leader of the offense and the guy who commands the most respect from his teammates. If Geno threatens to make himself unavailable, I don't see Mac flippantly shrugging his shoulders and saying "Oh well, next man up."

Everything I've seen from coach Mac says differently man. Also, I think this has more to do with JS than coach Mac, but I know they are talking to each other. Geno has been great in stretches, but man he can throw some awful passes. I am rooting for the Hawks no matter what, and I'm happy Geno is the qb right now for sure.

This could also be an opportunity for the Seahawks to make a point regarding negotiations and holdouts.
Like Rat said, MM could go 6-11 this first season and he's not going anywhere . These teams don't generally make moves to appease fans .

Certainly not in season one.

True.

Geno has had some success statistically speaking but at this point he's a little like one of the last 2-3 Dallas Cowboys QBs. Is it that he's now having regrets with "settling" for the millions of dollars Seattle is giving him ? He could actually play his way to a better compensation package if he wants a raise .

I'm sure John Schneider would like to have that problem.

He's woefully underpaid in the current market. It'd be complete negligence on the part of his team to not open a dialogue regarding their clients below-market compensation.

I'm not saying Seattle should budge, but I definitely understand the motive.

I would avoid assigning all of the blame to the player here. This is part of the game in pro sports, especially at QB. His agent and team are paid to do a job, and not maintaining a dialogue in this case would be the opposite of doing their job.

Does Geno's present contract include incentives? If not, if I was JS I wouldn't really see anything wrong with adding some, kinda like bonuses for your best employees when they do extra-well. Maybe yards, points/game, playoff wins, that sort of thing? Not sure about changing things in year 2 of a contract, but high-performers who measurably do better than people paid way more should see some sort of added sugar in my opinion.

2022: league-leading 69.8% completion rate with 4,282 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. 9-8 record.

2023: 64.7% completion rate with 3,624 yards, 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions. 8-7 record.

I don’t blame Geno or his people for wanting to get paid. While I don’t think he’s severely underpaid, he could stand to make more.

But if I’m JS, I’m not budging. Let’s see how he does this season as there was a very clear regression last year. Yes, quite a bit of that regression is attributed to other factors.

All QBs deal with additional factors…O-line not up to par, WR corps not up to par, injuries, etc.

It’s bad timing…that’s not really debatable here. Is it?

I know that this will be unpopular, but Geno needs to face the facts. He isn't that good, and the Seahawks just aren't that into him. He is making an order of magnitude more than he would if we had a decent other option and he was on the bench where he belongs.

Why not? The report was simply that a dialogue was opened. There's no demand on the table or expectation that this'll have to be done imminently.

They're just talkin' for now
Fair enough. I just don't agree he deserves more money. He needs to shut his pie hole and play ball. Just my own opinion.
I get it, guys want to redo their deals. Two weeks before the season seems like crap timing.
Stats do not = wins. He's a little above average.

Nothing about his play at any point in the past 2 years has remotely resembled a benchwarmer.

True, but it also doesn't resemble an elite QB who can get the job done in big games. Or a QB who deserves more $ than he's already getting.
