Wilson couldn't in a thousand years run Holmgren's offense. Ever.

Holmgren had the ability to put together the roster he wanted and he failed at building anything remotely as complete as Pete's. It wasn't as though Pete was just gifted with the players he had. He brought them all here. Holmgren assembled a great offense with plenty of weapons and a qb far better suited to extract it's potential than RW3. He had a near league leading qb, leading rb, outstanding wrs, arguably one of the best o lines in recent league history (2 hall of famers) and the defensive players he chose.

Knox can't be evaluated the same way because he came from the pre FA era. But for as great as he was, he was well known to have little love for the passing game and as such, was hamstrung a bit when it came to winning high scoring games.

Folks won't appreciate what happened here during the PC era until its gone and over.

I have been thinking a lot about Pete Carroll’s philosophy since the last draft. The recent thread talking about Jamal Adams being such a bad trade factored into this as well. IMHO Pete Carroll is a guy who believes in people. He believes that if they are competitive and have a chip on their shoulder then he can work with them. I feel this goes into how he views the world. He used to work (not sure if he still does) with kids in reallllly bad neighborhoods at his own risk. Because of this unwavering belief in people and trying to help is at his core thus bleeding into his football philosophy.

You could look a the Jamal Adams trade as see this. JA when we traded was considered top tier if not the best in his position in the league. He had no injury issues and he has an undeniable competitive attitude and swagger (even if you don’t like it).
Percy Harvin was an extreme talent and a bit of a head case but because Pete feels that he can guide/reason/coach even the worst of head he taught this was a good move. He turned out injury prone and was a definite head case. Pete could not work around that one.
Marshawn Lynch was very rough around the edges coming from Buffalo but this was someone who Pete thought he could get the best out of. And he did.

While his philosophy may not work out as often as we like it is more than just football to Pete. Say what you will but the culture he has created in Seattle keeps the castoffs coming back and the loner coming here for a home.

We have seen this mentality in drafts as well. I think hopefully he has softened a bit on this mindset and has begun to take note of some of the red flags and may take a pass on some (looking at you Jalen Carter). There are those whose who feel that Pete is stuck in the past and can’t keep up with the modern league. No way. He is the modern league. He has adjusting many things over the years because he has the mentality of someone half his age.

Sorry for the rambling but hopefully you get the idea of what I am trying to say. I think Pete is the best thing to happen to this team (maybe second after Paul Allen). Despite his flaws all his positives outweigh the minuses by a huge margin.
I want to add something to this. Part of what makes Pete so special is his ability to self evaluate. It's clear that the last two drafts have been home runs and its clear that the Hawks have made character adjustments to their evaluation process. I think Carroll felt slighted by the way his relationship ended with Wilson. Carroll did everything possible to save that relationship and it was Wilsons character that eventually destroyed it. Carroll, in the past, never said anything bad about Wilson , He always was in Wilsons corner supporting him and trying to make things work. It's my opinion that Carroll realized that his greatest strength is his greatest weakness, meaning that he absolutely has the ability to give players a second chance and make them successful in his system when they would not be successful in other systems around the league. He thought he had the ability to save everyone and thats a direct hit on his ego. What I think he realized is that he can't save everybody. Why not just put the effort in to high character guys? Its way less work. After Wilson I believe he said to himself this is NEVER going to happen again. I believe this because of his actions. it's way out of Pete's character to take swipes at a player in PC's and he did that when Russ left. Thats what makes me think he felt betrayed by Wilson. then the draft after the Wilson trade is when his draft philosophy changed. that to me is self-evaluation. I am impressed by that. This is just my theory so I might be wrong but I don't think I am.

Neither of them had a franchise QB like Wilson either. Put three teams together with the same talent and i'd take Knox and Holmgren over Carroll every single time.

Holmgren's last year, 2008, he had a roster not much different from 2010 and 2022 Seahawks. How did that work out?
Pete came in, 2010, terrible roster, didn't really make it a whole lot better other than adding Lynch and viola, makes the playoffs and wins a playoff game.

Holmgren's teams largely underperformed. Pete's teams largely over perform expectations.

Knox would be the only other guy I'd consider as close to Pete's equal, but his style would never work today. He's too much like Parcells.

Pete Carroll is why Russell Wilson was the starter in Seattle his rookie year. Comments like these are just so over the top ridiculous. You do everything you can to diminish and undermine Pete's football IQ and you just look silly everytime. Give it a rest.

Lol. Wilson was the starter because he was better and outplayed Flynn. Do you think Carroll would have started him otherwise?

Pete is one of the best in the league for initially putting together and nurturing a talented team. It's where he truly shines.

Can't say the same for Holmgren and Knox.

Carroll did it once and hasent been able to replicate or even put a decent defense on the field since.

Pete Carroll coached the 2022 Seahawks, a team largely depleted of talent and without their previous franchise QB, to the playoffs. They certainly did not get there by out-talenting the rest of the league nor by magic fairy dust.

Seriously man, you are so incredibly biased against Pete. What did he do to you?

Lol. They were one game above .500 and backed into the playoffs due to teams like the Rams and Cardinals self destructing with injuries and rebuilding. What happened in the playoffs anyways? The inevitable. They lost because they werent good.

Lol. Come on. 2008 Seneca Wallace played for half the season and the running backs were Julius Jones and Mo Morris. The 2010 team was much better and even had a losing record. Your reaching.

Look at how bad the Steelers are sucking though.

Seattle's defense, based on points allowed, was ranked #1 in the league for 4 consecutive years... and ranked #3 and #7 in adjacent years... for 6 consecutive years of being in the Top 10.

Name another team in the modern era that has accomplished that level of defensive dominance.

I can tell you that the Ravens, nor the Steelers, nor the Niners has accomplished that.

Pete's football philosophy is as solid as you can get. He has (just like most all other winning teams) had trouble hanging on to a roster that can execute it properly. He was, IMO, derailed by having a franchise QB who knew so little about the game he thought he knew it better than the coach. But Coach has his plan back on track now and we seem to be gaining steam toward another run to the top.

You completely missed the point. Entirely. Why? You are simply looking for anything to validate your own worldview when it comes to Pete Carroll. That roster had no business winning that many games and making the playoffs. Why did they do so anyways? It wasn't luck, it wasn't magic.

It was because they were well coached by Pete Carroll.

But yeah, you are moving away from that part of the discussion to talk about results in the playoffs or what other teams did in your estimation. This is typical for you and it's getting really old. Either have legitimate discourse with individuals and stop trolling, or go figure out why you bother to engage on a public forum at all.

It was because Geno Smith played out of his mind and Walker exploded onto the scene. Lets see what happens the next couple years. I'm betting it'll be more of the same which is early post season exits if they make the post season. Thats Carrolls ceiling at this point.

These things happened because they were coached well by Pete Carroll. How you are completely oblivious to this, is beyond me.

That was six years ago. Any other hand picked stats you want to throw out there?

Suckage. They have to do with suckage. Isn't that what you are all about? Calling out suckage? I thought you would be impressed.

Think you might have lost the plot. Your babbling nonsense.

Individual play has nothing to do with it huh? As for Geno, Pete and Waldron did well with the system they are running. The issue is when its not working. Thats where Geno fails. He's incapable of doing anymore when asked or needed.
