All we are looking for is number of years and dollars.

I’ll start- 3 years $55 million.

4 years $155M w/ $60M guaranteed is appx what I think it will take.

2023 - $30M signing bonus + $2.5M salary ($10M cap hit leaves $20M effective cap for free agency).

2024 - $32.5M salary ($40M cap hit leaves enough for FA, all guaranteed money now paid)

2025 - $45M salary. If he's still the starter he'll be worth it. If he's not dead cap is only $15M.

2026 - $50M salary. See 2025.

1 yr up to 45 mill - (expected franchise tag)
2 yr 50 mill guaranteed, 75 including incentives
3 yr 50 mill guaranteed, 100 including incentives
4 or 5 yrs 60 mill guaranteed, 155 including incentives

I anticipate Geno starting in Seattle for 1 to 3 more years. I think his value will be higher to another team at some point in that period. That will result in either him becoming a FA or another trade. I think PC/JS have learned their lesson regarding QB competition...or lack thereof.

It's trending towards Dak money.

The handwringing over this stuff is dumb, the salary cap is a joke. The cap can always be finagle'd as long as the owner is willing to put a lot of money into escrow. Skinflint owners hamper teams more than the actual cap.

Literally whatever it takes.
I just find it hard to believe that a guy that did nothing in the league for almost a decade will now get a top or close to top contract from anyone outside of Seattle. Unless he has a Kurt Warner type of season, which is highly highly unlikely, I think we come in around the $20-$30 million range for him 3 years. Theirs also maybe some hesitancy as you don’t want to be the team taking a Seattle player and paying him big $ only to find out he wasn’t what you thought he was. Sea Russell Wilson.

Any other team would be terrified to give geno a large deal to find out that he was playing for a good OC , head coach, in a favourable situation that he’s been studying and familiar with for YEARS, with elite WR’s and an extremely good, healthy and consistent o-line and dynamic RB play.

Essentially a perfect storm for geno to look like a very good QB. If I’m a gm on another team would I be delusional to offer him a 3 year 90 million deal and expect him to replicate his 2022 performance? Not likely.

To us geno is worth lots because he’s our guy and playing great and the other options aren’t nearly as good. I’d say a career backup 33 year old geno isn’t gonna create a bidding war unless we win the Super Bowl.

My guess would be 3 years lots of guaranteed money and 80 mill

I think a Stafford level salary is a good starting point.

His value is increasing each week. If they feel he's in the plans for the long-term (The way he is playing and his command of offense, there is no reason he shouldn't be) then they need to offer him a contract sooner than later. I think with the current Franchise tag is about $32M for QB.

He's playing at an above average level so if I was JS, I'd offer him a contract of 3 year $110M with $70M guaranteed.

Why not just franchise him and remove the risk of a longer-term deal as the money would be the same at t 32 million per year?

I get killed for this but I'm still nervouse with a high dollar or long term extension. Yesterday he had 3 balls that should have been picked but he also made plays when he needed to and the drive after the pick 6 was fantastic. Guys who have had a good year only to return to earth in recent history like Foles, Minshew etc still scare me a little. Ideally you get him on a short term deal and still draft your franchise guy in the first if JS falls in love with someone like he did with Russ, Mahomes, Allen etc.

It's a crazy league. I've seen Sam Bradford net more than a first rounder in a trade. Carson Wentz for a first, too.

Geno has a legitimate claim to top-5 MVP shortlist consideration. If he keeps that up for the year, there are a good few quarterback needy teams that'd want him and would bid for him. Pats, Bucs (if Brady leaves), Panthers, maybe the Falcons, Saints, Colts... no shortage of possible fits.

Kirk Cousins didn't do quite as well in Washington as Geno is doing here, and he got the first fully guaranteed big-ass contract in 2018 from Minnesota.

2022 Franchise tag, 30M- average top 5.
2022 Transition tag 27M- average top 10.
With the transition tag Geno could field offers from other teams and we would have the ability to match any offer.
Steve Hutchinson (Vikings) poison pill clauses are no longer allowed in NFL contracts, which BTW, was 7 year, 49M, a bargain by todays standards.
I think a 3 or 4 year deal averaging around 25M with achievable incentives included and a high percentage of guaranteed in the first couple of years, would be a team friendly deal. The transition tag would be the best way to set Geno's market price, we could lose him but I think John could work it out under favorable circumstances. Guaranteed $ and the right structuring would do it.
