Our floor this year, playing a much easier schedule, with a stronger D, considerably above avg talent on offense, and an invigorated staff and refocused approach will have 7 wins as its floor.

We're going to surprise a lot of people, apparently Hawks fan as well.

Easier schedule? The schedule this year is brutal. The last two seasons were the easy schedules.

I think this team is going to surprise you more than anybody else.

Agreed. But that could be said for other QBs who folks are claiming to be ineffective on 3rd downs too. How many times have the receivers dropped the pass, didn't evade the defender, etc.
Is this because so many of these throws are to the middle of the field?
Maybe Geno would have more luck throwing it to the wings.

Possibly. I can tell you that the Seahawks averaged around 23.2 points per game avg in 2021. With the guy throwing in the middle of the field, they averaged 20.3 pts per game. The one who threw in the wings, they averaged about 26 pts per game (guessitimate based on season pts per game avg). I'd rather have a QB who can get the team to score more points. Since that ultimately decides who wins. I don't care if the QB throws in the middle or if they use the wings, as long as it results in some type of score (preferably TDs).

Hearing predictions of 3-14 doesn't bother me, because it's not about wins this season, it's about getting the young players seasoned and developing them. I think keeping expectations low is fine, easier to exceed expectations when they are low and exceeding expectations keeps fans happy. That being said a lot of teams on the schedule have issues at QB also. Falcons, Lions, Giants, Panthers, Jets, Saints and 49ers maybe even the Cardinals with Murray being unhappy. I could see the Seahawks winning half or more of those games or maybe not, doesn't matter that much. Having said that I'll be rooting for a win every game ( even knowing losing has benefits ), what I need to see is development of the OL and pass rush, improve there and the foundation will be laid for 2023 and who ever the QB the Seahawks draft.

Our strength of schedule is .014 percentage points from the 16 spot (middle of the pack).

Falcons
Lions
Saints
Jets
Panthers

We also catch the Cards without Hopkins.

3 of those games are in the first 4. Something to be said for momentum and confidence if we can pull W's.

And if we are going to take credit away from Geno for beating the Jags last year... you know who's defense was worse than theirs? The Jets, the lions and the Falcons. The Panthers were only slightly better, same with the Giants. Will they be better? Probably. But likely not to start the season.

And I'm not buying the Broncos hype at all.

That's 5 gimme games and 2 reasonably winnable.

We aren't going 0 for 10 in the others.

Even Jim Mora's team won 5 games and they were an unmitigated disaster.

No, the best would be for the team to win a Super Bowl in the next 2-3 years. Then, if he wants to, Pete could retire as a likely future Hall of Fame coach - having the LoB, four years straight of the D leading in fewest points given up, two Super bowl wins (and nearly a third) and multiple playoff appearances on his resume.
Except that PC has proven for 7 years that he is no longer a Super Bowl quality of coach. People can disagree as to WHY that is but he can't even win two games in the same playoff year since the lost Super Bowl. You know there are kids in 2nd grade that were not even alive when we lost that game? But, plenty here want to give PC a lifetime pass for a Super Bowl win 8 years ago.

Keasely, you know there are likely 1-2 losses in that list of 5 teams you just posted, right?

And we are going to be scratching to get wins in our own division. Likely swept by the 49ers and Rams, probably split with the Cards.

Our schedule is rough because we don't have many teams we are much better than on the schedule. Most teams have either better rosters or matchup advantages against us.

Even in that list of 5 you provided, do you see any teams we would have the matchup advantages with? How? Why?

I guess I don't understand the pessimism.

How many teams can claim to have a wr duo like DK and Tyler? With young, lightning fast talent coming off the pine, this wr Corp is already being talked about as one of, if nit THE fastest in the league

TE - Fant's talent is obvious and it's nit as if he's an 'if' or maybe kind of player. He's already shown what he's capable of in Denvers disaster of a scheme and Dissly has done nothing but perform everytime he's been given a chance. Add to that the talk about how Parkinson is finally healthy... its a strong group.

RB? You're kidding right? Who could stop our running game to close out the season? 2 teams that couldn't- Detroit or Arizona. And we shoukd have blown Arozona out were it not for Russ's turnovers. And now we have the best RB in the draft?

Defense...

Diggs and Adams - arguably the best tandem in the league.

LB- nuoso, mafe, Brooks and taylor... to say nothing for the job that Baryon did. Hate to say it, but we didn't miss much in terms of speed and performance when Bobby went down. I honestly think this group will be talked about as one of the best in the league at season's end.

CB - raw, but stacked with potential in Woolen, Bryant, Brown and vet savvy with Coleman.

And Blair is back. Neal has always played well situational, and the rotation of Jones and others that had to close out the season played fast and free.

Dline is a question mark, but Woodscoming back and the plug of a man we got in the Wilson trade is a positive step. I expect we'll add more before the season starts.

Oline - also a question mark, but like the dline, I'd consider the trend arrow tilted up rather than down, given the draft.

Add to that, for the first time in a decade, offenses won't know what to expect against our tilt 3-4 hybrid D.

The unknown is obviously at QB.

But do you honestly doubt that if we added Jimmy G to this roster we wouldn't be at least in the playoff conversation? The D will be solid and much improved, the offense - look at our skill positions. The qb play is the question mark. Take that away and this team is built to win in the very near term.

And yeah. I think the roster we have will present matchup issues for the first 5 teams and more.

If Penny and Walker are 70% of what we think they might be, and if the qb can play smart ball... this team has no reason to be concerned about any of the teams I mentioned.

I have been wondering about the gap between JimmyG and Geno/Lock, no doubt that Jimmy has been a better QB, but frankly by now much?

In comparison to Lock: One could argue that Lock has strong arm than Jimmy and a better rushing option, but Jimmy has quicker release and better football IQ? In comparison to Geno: Again, one could argue that Geno has been a better rushing option? and Jimmy has quicker release. Not sure about football IQ. ALL three lack poised under pressure.

If Geno or Lock could raise their games and play at Jimmy's level, we could touch 8-9 wins this year.

Well Keasely that makes sense if you feel we have a materially better roster than those teams. But they have some good players on them too.
They just have holes. So do we though.

I don't think we have rosters that come anywhere near the 49ers or the Rams in terms of talent though. And they both have materially better coaching and better QBs.

They also have better lines, and LBs. Additionally, the Rams have better corners but we beat them with better safeties.

Our roster looks about as good as the Cards to me, the Cards are older but they also have a much better QB.
But we are also installing a new defense. So that is a complete question mark.
That likely means the defense will struggle initially as we figure out how to run it and the player learn to play within it. Still concerned we don't really have 3-4 personnel, but maybe we can fake it til we make it on that one.
Even so, we do not have significantly better rosters than those 5 teams. And we have much worse rosters than most of our division.
Finally, you are right about tremendous targets and great WRs - but we have limited QBs to get them the ball.
So our best players and biggest threats are only effective when lesser players are successful enough to get them the ball? Not a great reason for optimism.
Honestly, this is a gap year so it hardly matters but I don't see any way you can look at those teams' rosters vs our and think those are easy wins. Much less projecting us as likely to run the table on that group.

Twisted - I agree that in the end, nobody knows what's gonna happenm and yes, other teams are better. From all accounts, and i know its early, the players on D seem to be welcoming the new approach and a new (old) trend to playing faster and more free than in years past.

And on offense... we won 7 games with Tavaris Jackson at QB, and nowhere near the talent on offense or defense. Granted, it was 10 years ago, but it does point to what the staff can do with subpar talent. ANd the talent on this roster is far from sub par.

Louis Riddick talked about it earlier this week. There are folks in media becoming quietly bullish on the Hawks. It will all come down to the QB play. Good thing there is our scheme doesnt rely on whoever is back there to necessarily be P Mahomes. They'll have help.

This season is harder to predict, if we had our franchise QB this season, media heads could easily predict a 10-12 win season. 12s on dot net would predict a first round playoff and out.

I think the x factor is that our offense is plucked from the same tree as the one Shanahan runs in SF. Jimmy would step right in and make it go.

Agree he doesn't have the strongest arm and is prone to the bone headed play now and again. But the guy has been 'good enough' for a while now.

A lot of you are going to be in for a rude awakening this season. This is a 4 win club at best with the current roster.
And I'm fine with that, as the end goal should be to get a QB high in 2023.

again, I've heard that doom and gloom prediction several times over the years. High draft pick in the first round doesn't guarantee a thing at QB.
Just ask the Browns, Eagles and Bears about that.

One could argue that Jimmy's a bit more then good enough, been to multiple NFC championship games and all, come to think of it, more than some higher ranked franchise type QB. I like to speculate that Jimmy may be easier to coach as he seems to accept his limitations and do not have unlimited career goals.

If Russ is indeed a TOP 5 Quarterback with 9 years leading the Seahawks Offense, NO BACKUP should be beating him out in ANY facet of the game, NONE, especially not by a RUSTY clipboard Jocky Geno Smith, am I right?
