If the Seahawks had traded for Watson...

In an alternate universe, where the Seahawks aquired Deshaun Watson, would you still cheer for them?

would you still be able to cheer for them? Interesting scenario going on right now with Browns fans. Their team gave everything to get the guy and now he is just getting in more and more trouble. Tons of Brown fans denouncing the team as they can't pull for Cleveland with that guy under center. Not sure I could pull for the team for as long as that idiot was under center. There was certainly some buzz about us wanting to be in the conversation, but he quickly ruled Seattle out.

This really goes to speak to the NFL that this is something owners were able to look over because of his talent.

I'd have questioned our management had we traded for Watson and signed him to such an absurd contract after dealing away Wilson. I would be more apathetic toward the Hawks though.
Cleveland really screwed the pooch with this trade. Mayfield may not be the second coming of Otto Graham but he is still young, has played well and played through some serious pain. They didn't need to use up so much of their resources to get a QB. Especially one with Sooooo much baggage.

Can't really choose an option there. Kind of agree with Boohman though.

and one who might never play at that. Can you imagine the shitstorm if they gave up all those picks for literally nothing?

I'm going to support my team but I would not be happy with the decision to give him a fat contract instead of Wilson.

Yes, but I wouldn't be pleased about it. I've cheered for teams that have employed Frank Clark, Adrian Peterson and Jarran Reed.

Morals are great. But in football, and sports at large, I'm not sure one fan base should ever try to claim a moral high ground over any other. Rocks, glass houses etc.. plus you never know when it might be your squad in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

I still want to know more before I pass judgment on Watson.

There are 2 possibilities:

1 - Watson enjoys the power and humiliation by 'converting' (by force, persuasion, intimidation, or bribery) service providers into sex workers. If this is the case, at least 2 of those efforts are a type of rape. Rapists, child molesters, or child abusers are all on my WON'T CHEER FOR and CANNOT SUPPORT list.
If the evidence lines up with that, then he should be tried and jailed. But at a minimum be sued and lose his NFL position.

2 - Watson was purposely seeing sex workers in order to avoid some of the dangers that athletes face just picking up random women. He is basically college age, when I was in college I was easily sleeping with 4, sometimes 6 women in a week. 66 in a year isn't that much at that age, honestly. At that age you drink too much and sleep with too many people - you learn later it is kind of dumb.

If he was just messaging 'erotic massage providers' or 'tantric providers' then he wasn't trying to victimize anyone, another maybe a few were misinterpreted. But erotic massage providers sleep with their clients. At least that is the expectation. If the Grand Jury looked at how they were advertising themselves and declined to indict because sexual services were a reasonable expectation based on how they presented their services?
Then I don't care.

(My roommate after college did this for work. I know EXACTLY how that industry works even though I would be too concerned about STDs to do this.)

We have no way of knowing which of the 2 is the circumstance without knowing if those providers were providing those services to other clients or presenting themselves in ways that this was a reasonable expectation.

If that is the case then 66 in a year isn't a big shock. 66 in 6 months might not even be. It isn't ideal or even smart, but it wouldn't be predatory.

I've experienced the reverse, where I went to a massage and the woman tried to provide a lot more than a massage. That was a normal really nice upscale spa too, not some 'erotic massage' provider or some weird place on the side of Hwy 99. So it isn't crazy.

Better he stays in 'Factory of Sadness'. Let the misery stay there they seem to invite these difficulties there.

I'm so glad the team didn't trade for him and so glad the problem of him is not the Seahawks problem. Cleveland will likely not even see him play this year as the league will need to suspend him for a lengthy period for PR reasons.

The team has a real chance to rebuild and refresh here and the trade of Wilson was something that needed to occur, without adding on another huge cap hit.

All good points Twisted. There was a few places that I didn't know or expect it from them in Spokane, but i heard and read about them doing the same thing.

I firmly believe the Browns will very soon be begging Mayfield to stay, as it's a positive, sure thing, Watson is going to prison. The latest info make it look for sure like the young fellow is dead meat.. What happens to all the trades..??

Nope. When we were first rumored to be interested in him, I started contemplating what team to switch to if it happened. I most likely would have become a Dolphins fan, who I rooted for as a kid and have many fond memories of, but was considering the Lions and Bengals as well.

I’d root for Watson or, he’ll, even Rothlisburger over that asshat Kaerpernick. And I hate all three of them.

I admit, I haven't followed it closely, but hasn't he already been cleared (no indictment) of criminal charges? The current shit storm is just the civil suits? These are nothing more than a money grab. He'll end up paying them off just to go away. I disagree with the NFL policy of punishing folks that haven't been convicted criminally.

This has to be bait, right? You'd root for rapists over a guy who kneeled during a song?

NO..! Jus this week two more females joined in the suit. The case against him is growing stronger every day. This is no money grab, even the police who investigated said he is guilty of at least several crimes.
The stuff in this interview is eye opening.. They ladies were all offered $100k to drop the suit and not even one was willing to do so, they want his backside in jail.!
