Seahawks Chat reported the anonymous exec's words:

"Do I think Lock is the answer? No..."

1. Would the executive be paid for an opinion piece?
2. Is he giving his opinion just for fun?
3. Could he have a $19 miillion problem he's trying to solve, during his summer vacation?
4. Does he have some other purpose for giving his anonymous opinion?

He did say, also, Lock could be "...the greatest 'I told you so!' of all tilme..."
...sorry for the embedded single and double quote marks...I relapsed into Perl programming...

"Do I think Lock is the answer? No..."

No offense to Lock, but does anyone? We all HOPE he's the answer. I can't imagine many of us would bet our house on it.

If Lock has no offense, that could be even worse!
I thought Pete(darn fool kid!) had already answered 'Yes"...
Also, maybe Lock's Mom and Dad...grandparents...girlfrield, are possible suggestions I can guess.
And you didn't answe the question.
Unless the exec is retired, which the Chat reporter disn't say, what's the exec's motive?

Well, if Pete said it, it's obviously true.

Why does the exec need to have a motive? Maybe he just doesn't believe in Lock. That'd put him with in a group with basically everyone except Lock's mom.

I could see Lock being better here than he has ever been before, but that involves a lot of IFs.
IF our O Line actually is greatly improved that would certainly aid an aspiring QB.
IF our running game proves to be a strength that would certainly aid an aspiring QB.
IF our defense is what we hope they are that would certainly aid an aspiring QB.
There are more, but you get the drift.
IF you do what you've always done, expect to get the same result.

Why does the exec need to have a motive?
Because, presumably, his time is valuable, and the known, honest, identified executives claim they're always busy.
And someone usually pays them for their opinions(like Jody pays JS).
Google search string 'anonymous nfl executive' and this thread is Number 2 already!
Google's result number 3 refers to another anon exec claiming that Baker is a good player, and will lead his next team deep into the playoffs.
Contract that with Bob McAdoo, who openly admitted he hadn't been a Baker believer in April 2018.
Could Cleveland have a motive for denigrating Lock, while pushing an infomercial for Baker?

Ahh, Jedi mind tricks. Love the theory. It would make sense. Cleveland really crapped the bed in dealing with Baker. The Browns have absolutely no leverage in dealing Baker.

I do think he a good QB with potential to improve but not in the Waldren Offense. Maybe Arizona since Murray wants out.

Are you claiming that Cleveland has been disparaging Lock to move Baker? Because everyone in the NFL was done with Lock after the 2020 season, well before the current Baker situation.

So, an anonymous quote from a random chat room is credible? Yeah, sure.
No, the anonymous quote was shown on the screen of a podcaster named Tyler Jones, whose daily topic on Chat Sports is The Seahawks. Tyler said the quotes were published in The Athletic(whatever that is).
Tyler said that he "doesn't like" anonymity, but that "we have to listen, right?"
So, credit(or debit) The Athletic for publishing unsourced comments, presumably made for $, or other purpose.

So, it's a random chain of citations. OK.

My initial post was to ask why the Lock comments were made, anonymously.
I thought the simplest motive was $ but, if so, why not name the executive?
I didn't know 'everyone' was done with Lock after the 2020 season.
Lock had been Elway's choice(not Paton's). Maybe Paton never wanted Lock.
2021 season, Week 17:
Daniel Jeremiah, as Week 17 Broncos at Chargers ended, said, "Lock played a solid game." and Matt Smith agreed with him(on LA's radio broadcast).
That's one answer to Rat's question(above), when Rat asked "Does anyone?"

If Lock was any kind of answer, he wouldn't have been a throw-in on a deal for a real QB. Everyone knows this.

We actually need a TE and line depth is never outta style.
George Paton didn't seem to care about Harris and Fant.
Your Dream QB would have been demanding $51 million, and his recent play hadn't been comensurate with his contract value.
If your next Dream QB is playing for Florida, or Alabama, or Ohio State...from what I've seen...you're the one who's dreaming!
If your Dream QB is Levis, I hope it's safe for him, eating all those banana peels.

I kind of see the trade as:

Wilson for 4 picks plus Fant and Harris

Then the 4th to 5th round swap for Lock.

Lock is relatively cheap, Broncos could of kept him as their back-up or just cut him outright.

I think the Seahawks specifically asked for Lock, rather than Broncos trying to give him away, only because PC/JS already have done due diligence knew the 2022 QB class was weak.

And Lock (even mediocre) was more smarter for the short-term as he’s Pro-Ready now rather than wasting a pick, time, and energy to develop a QB that might not be that much better than Lock or Smith for that matter in the long-term.

I dunno who this 'Dream QB' you're referring to is. I simply said Lock isn't the answer. He's a short term fix. Who knows, maybe he can put it together and be solid for the kind of offense this team wants to run.

I think they valued Fant but it's not like Russ has had great luck with TEs in his career.
