Russell immediately saw/felt the unblocked rusher coming at him, so he spun out to his left, Lockette needs to break off his route the other direction, and go with the QB. He didn't so Russ didn't throw it. It's not Lockette's fault either because he is just coming out of his break, and didn't see Russell spin out to his left, it's just one of those things.

When Russell resets to throw, the defender was right on him. So if he throws that ball there he would of gotten absolutely crushed. Russ didn't want to pay that price so he scrambled to the right.

Once he scrambled to his right he could of squeezed it in there to Lockette, but probably felt it was too risky so he salvaged what he could.

The awful play was on the FB for missing a block, and the LG who wandered off into the forest leaving a defender unblocked. Any other QB that is a sack for a big loss.

Sweezy at one point is just standing around and watching the game. in other words the protection was messed up.

The protection wasn't messed up at all. Not really sure what you are seeing there or if you are just an OL basher. Coleman missed his block...plain and simple. Once that happened the whole play call is thrown out the window and everyone is just trying to make a play. Wilson had 2 chances to get the ball to Lockette. For some reason he didn't. Who knows what that reason is. That play still could have been a positive play even after Coleman's mistake but Russell didn't make the play.

One the first one it just looks like wilson saw the defensive end coming and decided to scramble away. He needs to start mocing up in the pocket a little more

If Russ had climbed the pocket on the first gif, there is a TON of room to run too. There is just no one covering the middle of the field.

In fact, that was probably the most frustrating part of the game. The Bengals seemed to leave the middle of the field wide open almost every play (the Graham play INT being one of the rare exceptions), yet the Seahawks rarely tried to make anything happen over the middle. So much yardage there for the taking just wasted.

Yep. And even after inexplicably leaving the pocket for no reason, he had Baldwin over the middle and possibly Graham at the sticks

Laloosh - can we get the A-22 of that one?

Added to the OP (if it's the OT play).

3rd down conversions I haven't looked at the stat but I'd guess it's awful. Also were throwing more but were not scoring in the redzone. Then there's the horrible offensive starts and now Wilson is going in the tank in the 4rth Quarter as well . Defensively were fine but were simply not as good as we were our SuperBowl year and probably never will be as that was one of the best defenses ever assembled and the reason we got there. Add to that a very average O-line and you have a 2-3 start and a 9 win team at best.

Most telling part for me is Huard mentioning that Cincy DB's keep running our routes. It's more chatter in the direction of what we've heard now from Mike Holmgren, Greg Cosell, Andy Benoit...our offensive concepts are just too simplistic.

Carroll wants a simple scheme executed to perfection. It's worked on defense. Thus far, it has not worked on offense. Whether that's a shortcoming of scheme, philosophy, or just having a very unremarkable WR corps, is a question we should be facing just as much as the question of Wilson's struggles.

Derrick Coleman whiffed on the DE. There was another LB that Britt / bad protection call left unblocked. so if RW moves up into the pocket he is sacked by him. Russ made the right decision on the play it was DOA at the snap, due to the bad protection.

The Seahawks had 4 O-Lineman Blocking 3 rushers on the right. Okung and Coleman (2) were left to block 3 on the left, again the protection got screwed up.

When RW had the immediate pressure Lockette doesn't even have his head turned around yet. So he bought time with a spin to the left. He then resets, but the DE was on him so if he throws it there (which he could of) he would of gotten destroyed.

RW made the right decision on that particular play. The red zone INT on the other hand is on RW, and is one of the worst plays of his career.

I've said this in another thread but it's virtually identical to a year ago this time. We aren't rushing for TDs and a big part of that is the fact that we can't even get into the red zone and when we do, we can't score TDs.

2015 Offense through 5 games
3rd down %: 37.7 (68% pass, 32% run)
# drives: 52
Yards per drive: 31.06
Avg Start: own 27.9
Avg time: 2:55

red zone drives: 10
TD %: 30
FG %: 60
INT %: 10

2014 Offense through 5 games
3rd down %: 38.1 (68% pass, 32% run)
# drives: 56
Yards per drive: 28.91
Avg Start: own 32.9
Avg time: 2:34

red zone drives: 17
TD %: 65
FG %: 35

So, see what I mean? From an efficiency standpoint, we're actually moving the ball better between the 20's.

The pedestrian receiver argument no longer holds water with the additions of Graham & Lockett.

Seattle has an awesome receiving core w/Graham, Lockett, & Baldwin. Also the Hawks have nice complementary targets that can play off of them w/Matthews (size), Willson (speed), Kearse (clutch). This Offense is spoiled with weapons they are just being misutilized, while being uninspired and half-baked. Critics call it simple. I call it exposed, because they make it way too hard on themselves to be successful on offense. Too much talent to be last in Offensive TDs regardless of the young O-Line.

When your QB makes 20 million dollars, he is going to get scrutinized.

When your QB wants to be considered elite, he needs to be elite and not make the horrific mistakes highlighted above.

When your QB is not getting the job done, it will be called out.

When you pay your QB 20 million dollars, and other areas of the team are weak as a result of having to shell that out, then he has to be extraordinary.

Instead, he is part of the problem.

Thats a problem for the Seahawks.

To say our receiving corps is "awesome" is a bit much. Cincinnati has an awesome receiving corps. They are better at every receiving position, including TE IMO. The Broncos, the Jets, the Cardinals (including their receiving RBs), the Chargers, etc. These are teams with awesome receiving corps. We are deep, but a step above pedestrian at the top and certainly nowhere close to the most stacked teams.

Don't get me wrong, Lockett has looked quite good thus far with limited opps, but there are receivers all over the league that are making cool plays. He hasn't quite set himself apart yet (not talking about his returning, which is already elite).

I didn't say they were better than Cincy, or the best in the league either.

Jimmy is a #1 option with a proven track record.

Lockett in a limited role albeit (he needs to start over Kearse) has been very impressive. And can be a #2 this season quite comfortably. I think he has a #1 ceiling given a couple years.

Baldwin is an elite #3, good #2.

with some nice complementary pieces around those 3 is... AWESOME.

Right, because Wilson is the reason they are losing, funny. Behind that line, he doesn't exactly have a lot of time to get work done. He is only part of a team that has blown 3 games they could have won. The D is just as big of a problem when they give up leads in the 4th. Stupid penalties by Bennett. Back up player falling down in the St. Louis game etc. This team has lost as a team. So, because Russ makes 20 mil, he has to carry the Defense too? Shoot, the play calling is a joke when you're going conservative with a 17 point lead. The offense was on point, next thing you know, 6 punts. Running game was working, make sure you abandon that too.
There is plenty of bad to go around when 2 of your 3 losses are overtime losses where you gave up leads in the 4th.

To be fair, Russell is technically only making $1,500,000 this season. He got an "advance" on the $20 million he was set to make on his NEXT four seasons. Hopefully, he is making the last of his rookie mistakes.

Well good, he has a bit of time to elevate his game to the level that would be expected then :)

Clock's ticking......

This team could be 5-0 and the criticism of Russ would still be legit. Its not about pinning losses on the QB.

When you pay franchise money to your QB, franchise, elite expectations come with it.

No longer will it be ok to shrug and say he is a 3rd round pick making piddly money. He has to show he is elite now.

The videos in this thread show he isnt there yet. We need him to be, our team will now depend on it.

thats what happens when your QB demands elite money.

fingers crossed.

You absolutely are setting yourself up for major disappointment if you change your expectations based on player contract size. Price and value will never align in the inefficient market of NFL QBS. There will always be a premium paid to keep talent you know and the salary numbers are not an input factor on performance.

Wilson is probably not going to improve to a qualitative "eliteness" on this team as a passer unless a sea change in offensive philosophy is undertaken top to bottom.

My disappointment isnt what we need to be worrying about.

If the hawks are paying elite money to a QB, at the expense of other positions on the field, but yet arent getting elite results from that QB, the hawks are in trouble. That would indicate that they made a mistake signing Russ to the contract they did. Why weaken your team just to.....to what? Appease the fans? We can find a guy who doesnt provide elite results for much less than 20 per.
