I could go with that.
But I think it's important to recognize, that the tea leaves have been pretty consistent if you look at them. All of the late round prospects that have turned into contributors (Sweezy, Sherman, Lane, Chancellor, Scruggs, Baldwin*, Wilson, Turbin, Wright, McCoy) -- they all had one thing in common. They were entrusted to play and Pete put them on the field even during their development.
Guys that are inactive or hidden on the practice squad basically haven't stuck at all. I mean really at all. Like zero percent chance. There are a whole host of prospects in that category: Durham, Dexter Davis, EJ Wilson, Konz, Legree, Winston Guy, Toomer and Howard. These are guys that were drafted and not played.
Pete hasn't been very mysterious about this. If you are going to be a player in the future, you are going to get snaps as a raw rookie. I'd say it's a core tenet to his philosophy on developing players because he's done it since his first days at SC.
Doesn't mean someone won't break the cycle. But you know what they say about betting against a streak....
