The Wonderlic test is a general purpose test designed to test the intelligence of job applicants in many different industries. The NFL has adopted it in the generic form but it was never intended to measure "football intelligence."

That's exactly what the Wonderlic is. In many ways, it's a speed-of-processing test - exactly what you'd want to test a QB in.

Rookies get way too much time to answer the questions for it to useful for that purpose. 12 minutes does not sound like a lot of time to answer 50 questions. However, 15 seconds per question is about 14 seconds more than most NFL players will get to make decisions once the ball is snapped. For every long boring word problem, there are lots of questions like these:

9. The ninth month of the year is
1. October, 2. January, 3. June, 4. September, 5 May.
Taking 15 seconds to solve this is the same as getting it wrong when it comes to football intelligence. If you want to figure out which QB thinks the quickest, give them 2 seconds to answer this and then grade their answer based on how close they get when being hurried. September - Great! October - OK. May - Awful.

My primary complaint with the Wonderlic is that many of the tests questions measure learned knowledge and testing ability rather than intelligence. This may be reasonable for a prospective office manager, but I could care less if my slot receiver is good at word problems.

11. In printing an article of 48,000 words, a printer decides to use two sizes of type. Using the larger type, a printed page contains 1,800 words. Using smaller type, a page contains 2,400 words. The article is allotted 21 full pages in a magazine. How many pages must be in smaller type?
This is a very simple substitution algebra problem if you have the learned testing ability to turn word problems into equations (1800 * L + 2400 * S = 48000, L + S = 21) . Without that knowledge it requires guessing and checking which could eat up way too much time, or skipping the problem all together. Would it bother to you to learn that a potential draft pick missed this problem?

5. RESENT RESERVE • Do these words
1. have similar meanings, 2. have contradictory meanings, 3. mean neither the same nor opposite?
Should I care whether a linebacker answers this question correctly or not?

START FLYNN!

LOL!! YOu guys are real geniuses.
Matt Flynn scored 26 on FIRST attempt then 38 on SECOND attempt (retake).
R Wilson scored 28 on his ONLY attempt.

Let's start the kicker ahead of both right?
