Wilson missed practice Friday to attend his grandfathers funeral . Smith and Lynch had their chances with the ball and according to everybody they both really sucked . A decent backup is necessary in this league . Can they find one asap ?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Geno. Dude isn't great but he's not as bad as he's made out to be either. His skills match up neatly to what the Seahawks do offensively. I.e. he can throw deep and run play-action very well.

I actually feel Geno is the best backup we've had since Tjack.

Agreed. Paxton is PS eligible. The QB room is great.

When was the last time we had a decent backup? Jackson?

Great ? Wilson is great ; but tell me why you think that Lynch or Smith are even mediocre . In 6 career years Smith dazzled with 29 tds & 36 ints...Lynch's 2 year career produced 4 tds & 4 ints . Awesome.

The Spokane Arena league team wouldn't even dress their backup QB because they knew if he got hurt they had no chance.

Which brings up the direct point of injuries to Wilson. He took a 51 sack beat down last season . How long can that go on ? Wilson is not invincible ; contrary to the children that think so . IMO As it stands at this point ; if Wilson misses just a game or two ; the Hawks can forget winning the division and most likely no post season at all .

Hawks should sign Nick Davila as backup. He was great for the Shock

About the same as you calling people children if they think different then you. I figured it was a child I was reading so responded accordingly.

There's some bizarro expectations of what a back up QB is supposed to be in this thread.

Yup.

Jackson basically led the same team as Wilson to an 8-8 record.

That's really about the best you can expect.

Remember that the scrimmage today was Geno Smith playing with the backups against our starters. He's not going to look brilliant in that scenario but he did have a couple of nice plays.

The ideal backup QB on our team is a guy who can come in and finish a game if Russ needs to go to the sidelines for something minor. We're not going anywhere this year unless Russ stays mostly healthy and neither Smith or Lynch are here to be potential QBs of the future. We just want a guy who can come in when it's 20-12 in the third quarter of the Buccaneers game and not immediately throw the game away Nathan Peterman style.

If needed ; which can happen at any time ; can either of those two start and win a game ; even against the weakest opponents on this years schedule ? I think not. Can either come into a game that the Hawks have a substantial lead and finish and win ? Maybe Smith could . Lynch has been a bust since the beginning. He's tall...that's all. Ask Elway.
I think is was Chris that broached the subject of the Hawks drafting a good QB prospect ; to train and develop for a backup role right away or a possible starting position in the future . I agree with that versus bringing in veteran retreads that can't or won't be anything but an emergency arm that nobody wants to see on the field . GO HAWKS
