Shead just seems like a better corner than williams, hes faster and even though he got beat he was also able to keep up with some of the fastest reicevers in the NFL and make some pass deflections. Williams probably would have been burned every play by those guys. Shead will continue to improve and will be a solid #2 . Do you think pete carroll benches williams for the rest of the season, because that would be great.

Williams is done, and I think Richards decided that. Shead, with some work, will be a good corner. If he learns from Sherman on when/how to track the ball better he'll be something to fear.

He's already been announced the starter for next Sunday.

This.
No need to vote, Pete took care of this question. There was no doubt in my mind who played better lately.

Shead could turn out to be really good for us in the long run. I know many have said he's not a starter material, but given his lack of reps and experience, its hard to tell. There's 5 games left for him to improve, time will tell.

I'm glad he's starting next week. He puts a ton of effort in. Loved the play yesterday where the Pitt player nearly had a touchdown despite Shead's hands being in the way, then Shead knocked it out of his hands in a second effort. He has a lot of potential.

I don't know if he is really an everyday starter, but I think he can play all four DB positions fairly well, and has bought into to our style of play. I hope he is not signed away in the off season. I would make him a priority in the of-season. We just might have an everyday starter.

....but he's still no Richard Sherman!

I know he had some issues in the game but I found myself not being pissed at him. I made fun of him for losing his jock but the dude never gave up, kept fighting and seems to have a great player attitude. He wants to be on this team. He's hungry and wants to start.

Shead helped hold Martavis Bryant to just five catches for 69 yards on Sunday. The majority of Pittsburgh’s 480 passing yards came over the middle of the field against Seattle’s linebackers and safeties and slot cornerbacks.

Wow thanks for sharing. 10 tackles and 4 pass deflections. Considering the circumstances (covering Bryant, first start, Fat Ben at QB) I don't think you could have asked for anything more from him.

I think the Eagles are wondering if Maxwell is an everyday starter right about now but he is making somewhere around $10 million a year. I think they can work him into the system and he could be the guy, definitely showing very good potential this year.

Our secondary has a much easier matchup this week.. our LB's though will have their hands full with Peterson and Rudolph.

Neither was Maxwell in the beginning, middle nor end of his time playing with the LOB.
Shead has shown all the desire of wanting to be a damned good Corner, and I believe Sherman will be more than happy to help coach him up to respectability.

Don't know if the OP's question wasn't really, will he be back after this season?

That could be an interesting situation with lane also being a UFA.

He's also another one of Pete's projects that has been jerked all over the field. I know Pete likes a varied skill set, and sometimes when you sign athletes its hard to find their niche, but Shead has seen extensive time at FS, SS, NB and CB over his time in Seattle. It would be nice for these guys to settle into one role a little faster than they often do.

Hard choice to make. Pure skill level its Lane and its not even close. Lane is the 2nd best pure cover guy on the team, and is a great special teams player. He's also younger. But he's got a scary injury history to come back from.

Shead is bigger and more versatile, and is one of the best athletes on the team. But he's older for a 2nd contract (27) and is pretty unproven.

I'd roll the dice on Lane, personally.

If the choice is Lane or Shead, Lane by a landslide. Ace special teams player. Great in the slot. Can play outside. He's our best slot guy and it's not a competition. Shead's replacement level but won't get beaten as bad as Cary Williams.

I somewhat disagree. If anything the receiving corps and quarterback combination in Minnesota is not nearly as high octane as Pittsburgh, so tackling becomes far more valuable compared to coverage. In that regard, i have to believe shead is the superior player. Lane getting completely owned by deangelo Williams on a critical third down tackle gives me little confidence vs AP.
