The awesome part was seeing Wilson have the confidence and trust in Ursua to look for him and make the throw.

I think also that there is only room for 1 small quick slot receiver in this run-heavy offense, where WRs need to be excellent blockers. Guys like DK and even Malik Turner seem to be getting the blocking done. Lockett's job is more in the passing game. You're going to take Tyler Lockett off the field to put in John Ursua? Really? That, IMO, is why Ursua has gotten so little action. That, and the lack of blowout wins, to give depth guys like Ursua more chances, BEFORE they become "Next Man Up".

I think Pete likes Ursua very much. Just remember Ursua is competing with Lockett for snaps, and Lockett is not a guy who ever takes snaps off, and then it makes more sense.

Maybe he's challenging the young man to get in the end zone. Or keeping any celebrations of effort muted in a loss.

Holding his feet to the fire for a fairly generic comment is pretty petty in itself.

An error? It was 4th down are you serious?? In what world is coming back to the ball so you can have a better chance at keeping the game alive making an error?

In the real world??? If Ursua catches the ball short then it prolongs the game but if he catches the ball in the endzone it's a win. As we saw, there's a big difference between the two. If your argument is that Russ couldn't have fit the ball into the planned window then I think you should consider re-watching the play; Ursua was open.

What if we tried slot receivers that also block better? We could line them up tight with the formation and maybe call them tight ends or something.

Sad thing is that Ursua clearly has his feet set under him. All he has to do it push his body back like Julio did in the Falcons win over the 39ers. Rookie or not, you gotta' know the situation. But, that was a huge 4th down conversion, so there is that. I look forward to seeing what the kid can do. But how do you not just push your body back towards the end zone?? Easy TD from the angle of that defender.

The defender had momentum pushing him forward, he would have had to push back against it, that's possible if he has control and that split second to react, if he is just catching the ball and had not had time to use his legs then the defender has the advantage pushing him away from the goal line. Split second was all it took.

This is a great thread IMO. Ursua jumps out on the screen every time he's given a shot. In Pre-Season, he caught a ball over the middle and in one move avoided a tackler, similar to Baldwin.

You know there's a problem when people who know nothing about football, start to identify things before the coaching staff.. He's going to have an impact on Sunday if he gets some targets- I'm certain it.

Ursua's situational awareness to know that getting the first down was the most key aspect, PRICELESS.
Ursua's decision to prioritize actually making the catch and securing the ball, PRICELESS.
- after all, how many receivers have we seen drop easy catches because they tried to run before completing the catch?
Ursua's ability to find the open spot in the coverage where Russell could find him, PRICELESS.
Ursua's decision to get down with the 1st down in the bag, before a hit could knock the ball loose, PRICELESS
Ursua's decision to do his job, and not try to be the "Hero" at great risk, but trust the team to make ONE YARD - SMART

This was a highly successful play. Seattle's win % went from SFO 67.2% to SEA 73.6%. This one play was the biggest play of the game to this point

Ursua's play improved the Seahawks win probability by 56.4% on ONE PLAY??!! And still people complain??!!

Sorry, Soulfish, not intending to pick on you, but IMO the focus should be on all the INCREDIBLE POSITIVES of this one play, that set the team up for an excellent chance to win. BRILLIANT play by a rookie. We are only having this conversation because of BONEHEAD mistakes by Pete, Schotty, Marshawn, and some bad luck, with Fant's injury,

Even if Ursua scores, it's now 27-26 Hawks, with 22 seconds left, and we go for 2, we make it, 29-26, then a FG by Niners could tie it at 29-all. We fail on the 2 point conversion, then a SF field goal beats us. Yes, there are 22 seconds left. Remember our playoff game in Atlanta in 2012 where Matty Ice and Julio beat us? Remember the game of SF vs NO a few weeks back, the Saints score a TD to go up by 1 with 53 seconds left, and then the 49ers get that 50-ish yard catch and run from Kittle plus a 15 yard penalty, and next thing you know, SF is kicking the GW FG? So the Saints TD with 53 seconds left improved their win prob % to 58%. But they still lost.

Ursua's TD improved our win % to 73%. If Ursua had scored, at the 22 second mark, maybe the win probability hits 75%. We can kick short of a touch back and cause 5 more seconds to be burned on the kickoff return, leaving about 17 seconds. Niners start from their own 35. That allows 3 plays, tops, to get in FG position, covering about 35 yards. Niners had timeouts IIRC.

The IDEAL scenario would have been to score on 3rd down from the 1, after running a Russell scramble drill that took maybe 5-8 seconds and had an incompletion. The result would be Seahawks lead with around 10 seconds on the clock. Kick deep, then Niners have two plays to go 45 yards and kick a FG. I really like our chances on that scenario. The delay of game pushed our win prob. % down to just above 50%.

Conclusion: Ursua did his job brilliantly. Makes no sense to ask for any more. If only the DOG culprits had done their job.

How positively delightful it would be if Travis Homer and John Ursua have the big plays on offense that beat the Eagles Sunday. A 6th rounder and a 7th round rookie. And maybe also Jacob Hollister, a mid-season scrap heap pickup off the practice squad.
