Hmmm,
The chiefs were in the superb owl last year
We should squash them in every phase albeit with 2nd and 3rd stringers
Some of those guys are good too
Actually hopin we might sign 1 or 2 after cut down day and if not from them then , somebody else

There was a long return, which was negated by a holding penalty, anyway. Where it proved, the statement by a commentator last season. That with the new kick-off, relying on the Kicker, to make the tackle, is not the best tactic.

Because of a long run back against a bunch of 11th stringers? Yeah, ok 🙄
The kicker had to prevent a touchdown early in the second quarter due to bad coverage.

Special teams under Harbaugh was a liability last season and it hasn't looked improved so far this season.

Can assistant coaches improve? Sure, or they could just be bad hires like Grubb was. We will see.

As long as we have Meyers on the field it's apparent we don't need to worry. That TD saving tackle was a thing of beauty and he made it look easy. Not quite Bobo level play, but possibly approaching. He may be the new Bobo-lite.

You are saying he could be our Robin to Batman Bobo?

I'm excited about what seems like improved Oline play and Toffee has made a lot of posts mocking the fact that JS looked to coaching to improve it rather than changing what we had last year for free agents like the Bears did.
Why did he not do it with special teams too though? If we can move on from Grubb etc why not Harbaugh? Its been bad so far this preseason all around and it was bad all last year. I'm not bringing it up as some sort of new thing. The special teams coaching is bad and its been bad.

That's cool. Do you. I'm not worried about special teams. Yet

I think it's because Jay Harbaugh is a close friend of Mike M. Similar situation Pete had with some of his coaches that he held on to too long. Larry Izzo was a great ST coordinator. Should have just stuck with him.

I think he makes a solid point. We gave up a lot of return yardage last year. Now we give up two huge kick returns in one game. What is the deal? Prior to last year we were top tier in ST's play and had been for years.

If we go by surface level stats from 2024 (According Bill Huber) and DVOA:
  • Net Punting: 4th
  • Opp Punting : 11th
  • Field Goal Percentage: 25th
  • Kickoff Returns: 17th
  • Kickoff Coverage: 22nd
  • Overall Rank: 15th
  • Special Team DVOA: 10th
The Seahawks ST unit wasn't the worst, but they really struggled on kickoff returns. If there is anything to hone in on, I think this is the main culprit that Harbaugh needs to improve on.

The kickoff return given up to Jalen Royals was a blown coverage in the middle of the field. The punt return TD given up to Sky Moore was so bad. You have him pinned against the sidelines and still let him score.

There are things to work on for sure. However, I don't think there was any justification to fire Harbaugh based on last season.
