How does discussing the team equate to caring what other people think? I kind of get what you’re saying but I don’t really think talking Seahawks is the same as caring what other people think.
This. I care about what those who are 'in the circle of trust' think. :)

To care is to feel concern or interest. If you are reading posts on this board, and engaging in conversation, I assume it's because you have an interest in the thoughts that others are sharing and discussing.
Yeah it’s definitely about interest in others thoughts and the team, but there’s also a fanatical side to it where I struggle to
find people in the wild that I can even talk sports with at all

It's all entertainment. I don't get my nose out of joint when national pundits trash on the team, they're guessing just as much as the rest of us. It's certainly fun (as has been mentioned) when the pundits praise the Seahawks, get that dose of confirmation bias. Heck, I've occasionally gone back to the First Take episode after we smashed the Broncos. It's still as amusing as ever.

And it's fun to trash talk a little - I'm never going to not call teams the whiners and lambs but I don't really have bad feelings towards their fans. (The Cowgirls on the other hand.... :p )

I think it's important to keep our perspective and not care TOO much - we don't want to be like Philadelphia fans and beat the crap out of opposing fans in our stadium.

Have you ever been in the newspaper as a kid for sports or grades or some other achievement? It’s exciting, even if it’s just the sequim gazette. Or better yet have you ever seen your little boy or girl make it in the paper? The pride and joy! You show everyone all about. The Seahawks are like that, the little brother of America and when we make the news it’s exciting cause we never get the attention

While evolving, the people who genuinely didn't care about what other people thought tended to die without having kids more frequently than those who cared more about what others thought. No matter how dumb pundit rankings are, trying not to care about them at least a little is like trying to make sugar not taste good. We inherited it.

Yeah, if the talking heads sat down and discussed things with me for an hour or so each week, I'd care a lot more about their opinions.

Benna seahawk fans since I was a kid when I came to town and through all the c***** days and all the s***** decades. And then there's last year and what may be different this year. Do you remember how many times Gino? Looked like a deer in the headlights and DK. Metcalf acted like he broke the end of his route. Cause he just didn't care. We watched every game in every play and they. The media did not media did not, so I'm pretty sure I have a little better idea. What those jerk offs are going to come up with and it's not what they think

It used to be that the first thing I did when I got home from work was turn on ESPN Sports Center. I might even watch it more than once. Then maybe even more on the weekends to get caught up on everything sports that happened. This would have been in the 90's.

Today - and IIBH probably for the last 20-25 years - I don't turn on ESPN unless a live event I want to watch happens to be on their network. In my estimation it has become a cesspool of shitty journalism.

It used to be a staple - and is no longer. This is a great article that I think explains the dying of ESPN well.

This post solidifies why .NET has the highest concentration of Seahawks experts. Thus is why Hawks' ownership, front office types, coaches, and players visit and learn from .NET

I don't care. I don't even read articles wholeheartedly. I skim them, if it is a bunch of bull, I go to the next thing—usually a Brunette in little to nothing.

What with the weekly zoom meeting I have with JS and MM, and all the absolute truth they drop in those sessions, and in their other media appearances, I have no need of ignorant outside media opinions. I was pleasantly surprised a year+ ago when JS took my advice and hired MM, a defensive coach against the league trend of wonderboy wunderkind offensive guru coaches. /s Seriously though, I am always shocked when a non-Seattle media figure has an informed take on the Seahawks, and even more shocked if their take proves out somewhat in the actual game.

I do like hearing about our team from other team's fans and media, because they don't feel obligated to engage in puffery, flattery, and homerism, and their reasonably-informed opinions and takes are often revealing. (Not so much the ignorant talking points/agenda they're often given or assigned) Several of the 49ers and Rams fans that post on this board respectfully tell us their perception of the "truth" about our players or our team, and I generally find their takes interesting, regardless of whether I agree or disagree, or whether they get attacked and flamed. Now I'm talking about those with informed opinions, not the "player/team sucks" clowns who have nothing relevant to offer.

For example, there were actually a small, small number of analysts who predicted a blowout for the Seahawks in SB48. Ahead of SB48, my take was, Q. "How will Denver stop Seattle's big-time run game? A. They can't and they won't", and it also turned out Seattle's D was too much for Peyton Noodle-arm (at that point in his career) Manning. So it's entertaining to look back after a game to see which analysts, posters, and media called things accurately ahead of time.

Seriously. This is an honest question to all my fellow 12s.

Why do we really care what some numbnuts with a modicum of media credentials thinks about our team? And trust me, this is not an accusatory thread, we ALL care to varying degree on some level what outsiders think about our beloved Seattle Seahawks.

Why?

I am asking myself this question just as much as I am asking you.

For me, I guess after being a diehard fan of the team since I was 9 years old (56 now), I am quite protective of my "tribe". The logo, the colors, the history...I guess I get somewhat defensive or dismissive if there are folks out there, ESPECIALLY national mediots, who thumb their nose at us. Part of that is ECB (East Coast Bias, like it or not, like UFOs, it's real people), part of it is I just want to hear positivity all the time about my team even though I am fully cognizant that that is the furthest thing from reality.

So what about you? Why do you care what others think or say about our team?
Because they get paid to do this.... Thats my issue... they make six figures to be literal muppets.. while any of us here could be the same shock jock based on all of our responses and reactions to each other.

@AROS Seahawks.net ShockJOCK PODCAST two times a week, with approved posters coming in to discuss with two hosts our RIDICULOUS takes and overreactions?!?!?

Throw in some ads.. get an episode sponsor... Site and podcast paid for!

Let me know if you need someone to do any of the backend development LOL

Please forward our good wishes to JS, please also praise him for how he identified iOL problems originated from poor QB and WR plays, decisive action to rid the team of QB and WR so our OL can shine 💪

Consider it done! I often share your posts with JS and MM during our weekly zoom meetings, and JS's usual reaction is to rub his beard stubble and chin, then move his hand up and slap his forehead and say, "Wish I'd thought of that! Who is this Toffee guy anyway, some sort of ex-GM ringer? Anyway, yes, I'll absolutely do what he's suggesting!" and then MM chimes in with an eager, bright-eyed expression, "YES, YES, do it! This Toffee guy is nearly always on the money with his ideas!!"

I had previously shown them your posts advocating ditching Red-Zone-Pick GeNO, signing hometown (state) hero Cooper Kupp, trading DK instead of paying him, and signing One-Year-Wonder Darnold because he'll thrive in Kubiak's system, because Darnold is just Clint's dad Gary with a stronger arm and more mobility. Their reaction now, each week, is "Do you have anything new from Toffee? Is he available for us to hire as a consultant?"

Will you start a .NET thread, "Toffee's GM Guidance Thread" and post your advice regularly? That way I'll have something new to share each week. I'll also allow* advice from Maelstrom and keasley45, and I'd say Kearly, but I think Kearly is dead, covid got him, absent a proof-of-life post with video holding up a current newspaper.

* As if I had any authority or control, lol SoulfishHawk will be spamming that thread with every random suggestion or hot take under the sun!

Haha. I thought I was the only one who experienced this. I watched it most heavily from 1994 when I moved to Georgia - it really was great. As another poster said, it's now all about the media getting clicks - sensationalism. I now get my sports news from Kevin Cowherd. I know that sound crazy, but I turn on the recording about an hour after it ends, then fast forward to anything related to football. Sure, it's mostly opinions (which I can fast-forward past), but I get all the news. Also, he has Matt Hasselback on quite often, and his opinions are worth listening to (in my opinion, which generally isn't worth listening to).
