I am having a hard time remembering any media content regarding the Hawks back in 05. We seemed to be pretty much ignored.

But It seems like we were a "finesse" and "soft" team and facing the bigger stronger stealers.

Was that how it was?

Cause it seems like we've flipped the script this year.

We hit hard every play. We beat teams up and down. We play to the echo of the whistle. Seems we are the polar opposite of the 05 team from that perspective.

Yes. The Seahawks were called soft all over the place and we all on here were trying to defend them.

The defense was a bend but don't break type of defense. The OL was pretty good, at least on the left side. Locklear was considered as a rising star at the time. Alexander wasn't considered a bruiser and the WRs were nothing special, though Engram and Jerivicious were money players.

Yeah, most of the crap-talking fans from other NFC teams labeled us as soft/finesse. I would agree though I wouldn't tell any of those jackholes. Then we faced the Smashmouth Steelers and they threw that up into our face as well.

For all the talk of "soft" or "finesse", it wasn't those aspects that cost the Seahawks the championship. So be careful pounding one's chest about how much tougher we think we are versus the Broncos. Doesn't mean much if the other team beats you.

2005 Myth: We were soft and finesse, Stealers were smashmouth. Smashmouth was better.
2014 Myth: Denver is finesse. We are smashmouth. Finesse is better.

REALITY: We're west coast. They're east coast.

in '05, the defense had a lot of sacks. it seemed like they were running more stunts/blitzes than in other holmgren years; maybe because they were playing with a lead so much of the time.

that offense was hardcore. they may have set a record for 80-yard TD drives that year.

overall, the current team is bigger/faster; especially on D. at wideout the current squad might actually be smaller, because 2005 featured a good amount of joe jurevicius. jj is the one player i'd be interested in seeing on this squad. other people might say jones/hutch/shaun/lofa etc.

i think this current team is mentally tougher, partly because they've been challenged more. this year's defense really had to bear down. the offense had to do some clutch things.

it seemed like, in 2005 we'd get a 10-14 point lead with the offense, then some sacks/ints on D and that was it.

the refs certainly didn't help, but the 2005 seahawks machine kind of broke down in the 2005 sb.

Smashmouth reputation usually comes from a hard-hitting defense and a physical running game right? Our D was pretty good last year but can anyone think of a standout who would make offensive players keep their heads on a swivel? Hamlin was that until he got hurt. Compare that to this defense. Same thing with the running game. Don't get me wrong, our running game was fantastic in 2005 with Alexander running behind what was regarded as the best left side in football. But it seemed like the reputation of Shaun and that running game was the line opening holes and him running through them. Different from Lynch who enjoys running over defenders.

Plus remember the Steelers also had the Steeler reputation and history of being hard nosed as part of the perception.

Porter and Stevens got into that spat over being soft and punishing if memory serves.
