The WSU Qb has looked
Really good, could probably snag him in the 2-3 round. Let him learn under Geno for a couple years. The model Green Bay has used.
I'm on board with this plan. I've been looking at some of his tape, and one thing that stands out is his elusiveness, and not only that, he keeps his eyes down field, he's not a RB trying to play QB. Plus, he's young, so PC can be patient with him and let him learn under Geno for a year or two. I think with Geno's tutelage, he can become a starter in the NFL.

I really like how Ward went from a small school like Incarnate Word, then transferred to a power 5 program and still put up good numbers and has his team winning games against solid competition. If WSU had a better OL, he'd look even better, just imagine if Ward played for the Huskies.

Hi Chevy,

Until you mentioned that, I had been mostly been thinking it would require a trade, or maybe another free agent signing this off season. That's based on John Schneider's earlier comment that there lately just there just haven't been any BIG guys to draft.

So I'm curious, any player's/colleges you specifically have your eyes on?

I haven't done a deep dive on watching of games on all the top ranked DTs, but I have seen most of them.

My favorite two DTs as of today are Clemson DT Ruke Orhorhoro and Duke DT Dewayne Carter. Both would be DE in our 3-4 scheme, not NT. They are quick and look to have good agility for DTs.

Clemson DT Ruke Orhorhoro is 6'4" 290 lbs. Ruke is not only a good athlete but he plays with good power. He decleated a pulling OG last week vs Florida State, hopefully someone will post it on Youtube here in the near future. He tries to win with quickness and a bull rush, he needs to develop as a pass rusher. I think he is projected as a 2nd round prospect as of today, but I did see a mock with him in the 1st round. Here is a highlight of Ruke...

Duke DT Dewayne Carter is 6'3" 305 lbs. He wasn't on my radar until yesterday when I was watching Duke vs. Notre Dame. Carter is explosive and looks to have good agility. He is ranked as a late round prospect, but I think he could be a 2nd round prospect.

Here are some of the more know DTs to keep an eye on...
Ohio State - Tyleik Williams 6'2" 290 lbs.
Michigan - Kris Jenkins 6'3" 305 lbs.
Texas - T'Vondre Sweat 6'4" 362 lbs.
Illinois - Jer'Zhan Newton 6'2" 295 lbs.
Illinois - Keith Randolph 6'4" 300 lbs.
Clemson - Tyler Davis 6'2" 300 lbs.
Georgia - Nazir Stackhouse 6'3" 320 lbs.

As an NFL QB Fields is that bad I am expecting the Bears to move on from him in 2024. He is another example of an OSU QB not being able to play in the NFL their system doesn’t require intelligence. The most successful QB to come out of Ohio State is probably Mike Tomczak
Stroud looks like he's going to buck that trend. He's looked very good so far.

I get he’s your hometown qb. But Penix would fold behind most Seahawks OL. He’s shown to be great with no pressure, but those numbers go way down when he is pressured and hit.
USC QB has the same situation and stares down his 1st option a lot.

Thanks for the heads up on that, Chevy.

Not if they continue to play like they did yesterday. Caleb Williams could be a very good possibility.
We have no shot @ Williams, but if Chicago ended up with pick #1 & #2, there is a possibility #2 is available. I would love e for the Hawks to go after Drake Maye or JJ McCarthy! We would be set @ the QB position for the next 10yrs +.

No argument from me on that front.

The issue is that there is a significant gap between the top 2 guys & the rest of the group at the moment.

Riley Leonard
Michael Penix
Quinn Ewers
Bo Nix

None of those names that I listed have separated themselves as the clear #3 guy. Sanders could end up being that guy. But it's still early & the sample size is small.

Ewers & Nix both have struggled with consistency. While Penix has the durability & only one year of production label. Simply put, there are more questions than answers with each one.
No love for JJ McCarthy? Dude is legit!

I don't have a favorite college football team, so I don't have a biased opinion of Penix. There are QBs with more upside, that are highly athletic yet they don't have the accuracy, touch, or shown that they can go through their progressions.
Chevy I have faith in you, don't be a Cactusjack! Please take 15 min and look up JJ McCarthy. Dude has a 79% comp, 1300yrds, 11td, 3int, 94 QBR (1ST) in 5 games @ 6'3" 200lb. Runs a pro style offense. He can also make teams pay with his legs, and has a nose for the end zone!. I now where we will be drafting 22-26 we will have to Pony Up to trade up to take him. But our team is ready for our new QB, with our OL pretty much set if Bradford & Olu are legit. We have all the offensive weapons in place to make life easy on a rookie, especially with how our run game is shaping up. Yes our Def still needs some tweaking, we can work on that in FA with the money we save from moving on from Diggs & Adams, + the draft capitol we would get from trading Geno. Nothing against Geno, but we need better. If you don't agree wait until we play the niners, eagles or in the SB KC, Buffalo, Miami. Geno doesn't have what it takes to top these teams.
