I checked pro-football-reference.com to see if the 2000 Baltimore Ravens had any significant letdowns in a season where they were considered one of the best defenses of all time.

Lo and behold the 2000 Raven's D in the 2nd game of the 2000 season allowed 36 points, 22 first downs, 421 Total Yards on 375 Passing but forced 4 Turnovers to edge out a 39-36 win @ Jacksonville.

Mark Brunell was 28 for 50 for 386 yards, 3 TDs, and 2 Ints.

Jimmy Smith had 15 catches for 291 yards, and 3 TDs.

I just realized we allowed both a 100yd rusher and 300yd passer in the same contest. Wasn't expecting that from this defense.

You shouldn't expect it. It's an aberration

That'll tend to happen when an Offense puts in 88 plays on the day.

We were also sleepwalking much of the first half.

Fieldgulls had a nice discussion in their comments section where they sample size the last four 10 a.m. starts of the 4 West Coast teams. SD, SF0, OAK, and SEA.

As a whole, it showed the teams significantly scoring less and allowing more against in the first half.

However, in the 2nd the number flip flops where the teams score more and allow much less points to be scored.

Sea and San Fran were the two teams handicapped the most where they started out sluggish but turned it around in the 2nd half.

The Raiders allowed about the same amount of points in either half but scored more in the 2nd half than the first.

The Chargers were the only team to have a positive differential in the first half but it still showed they played stronger in the 2nd.

Another, poster than took it a notch further by correlating biological clocks to sunrise. For instance, San Diego experienced Sunrise earlier than Seattle does.

In all it was a smart and intuitive conversation that supported the thesis that 10 a.m. starts by West Coast teams is real handicap and not just an easy excuse.

Furthermore, they discussed biological clock and sunset factor and linked to a reason why Seattle has been so historically badass in night games in Seattle especially Monday Night games.

Not that I don't believe....but do you see Richard Sherman as our Ray Lewis? He might be....your thoughts?

As for the Lambs and the Aints? Both are DEADMEAT given it's MNF....look it up. At least we get TWO MNF games, a poor substitute for 5 10am games but I will take it.:)

Naw, Ray Lewis is often incoherent, takes forever to make a point, and confuses more than he enlightens.

Shoeless Dick is as clear as a bell, gets to the point immediately, and leaves no doubt.

Couldn't be more different.

It needs to be pointed out that yes we allowed a 100 yard rusher, however
if you look at the stats he ran 27 times for 102 yards or a 3.8 average/carry. Not very good.

If you run it enough you'll get the 100 yards, he didn't have 100 yards in regulation. One would expect more yards given up with you play 80+ plays and 3/4 of an Overtime quarter.

Ray Lewis is one of the best defensive players of all time. If Shoeless Dick = Ray Lewis then I'm a-ok with that!

I think you can track back in histoy and find SB winners that had some hiccup along the way, but this was a pretty good pull. Kudos!

I remember having Jimmy Smith on my fantasy for that game. Loved it!!!

Our defence in the 2nd quarter was straight up swiss cheese.

However, let's not forget that in the 2nd half & OT the furthest Houston advanced the ball was to our 40 yd line. Which one play later resulted in the Sherm pick six. Our defence was a major reason why we won that game

The 2000 Ravens had another hiccup similar to that in the last game of the regular season against the Jets, allowing 400+ yds passing or something like that. They also went, I believe, 4 straight weeks without scoring a touchdown and had a 3 game losing streak in the middle of the season. Maybe the greatest single season by a defense in the history of the league and there was still plenty of things they could have done better when it was all said and done. But they won the big one so that's all that really matters.

I do want their points allowed record SO BAD though.

Same. Even we don't win the Superbowl. But ofcourse I want to see the Lombardi as well.

He might end up being guilty of killing Matt Schaub's career.

Wow, maybe the Texans were our New York Jets.

The Ravens D in that game allowed 524 yards but forced 6 turnovers into allowing only 20 points.

I wonder if its why the Seahawks played more zone against the Texans, to force more passing, but have more chances in creating turnovers. However, when you play with fire sometimes you get burned.

Seahawks should just stick to what they do best.
