Tyler Lockett has been money in the slot

So why does our "genius" OC have Lockett lined up out wide most of the time? Maybe because he is clueless in terms of playing to team strengths or exploiting opponent weaknesses. :34853_doh:

Or it could be that as one of our fastest players, Lockett is often sent on go type routes to take the top off the defense and back the corners/safeties off the LOS. We can't run the ball as it is, so the last thing we need is the defense crowding the box.

Also, is that the type of garbage PFF puts out? All it has is passer rating by alignment. Nothing about frequency/sample size/number of times he lined up at each spot. Without the information this is pretty much useless.

I'm not defending Bevell, I just think that statistic is extremely misleading and lazy on PFF's part.

Lockett is not making the corners/safties back off the LOS. If anything, they would want to jam a smaller receiver.

Now, put Jimmy Graham outside (which Bevell has refused to do, outside of a few -- mostly successful -- instances) and that might draw a safety outside the box.

Slot receivers are quick outlets for quarterbacks. It is well known on this forum that quick passes would solve some of the offensive issues we see. To have high numbers as a slot receiver is not surprising

However our OC does not believe in quick passing. Instead he lines up our best deep threat receiver on the outside more and prefers a game with slow developing plays.

Not sure what is surprising about this statistic. It aligns with everything quite a few of us has said for the past 3 years....
