What did you guys think of his performance today?

I thought he looked really raw, but there's some potential there. Sort of reminded me of when Sherman first started back in 2011. Tall, fast, aggressive. We may have something there imo

Flowers looked like what most raw rookies who were converted from a safety look like in their first game in front of a hostile crowd against a very good WR in Sanders..................50% good and 50% bad.

But I like what I saw, the moment wasn't too big for Flowers. He competed, he wasn't overwhelmed, and he fits our long nasty good tackling CB mold.

Just needs more time to develop, unfortunately like Shaquem that means starting on a thin defense where more is expected of him.

The kid is basically replacing the legendary RS25. We have been spoiled. Tre Flowers deserves a long leash. Even Sherman wasn't a shutdown corner in his first year.

He looked fine under the circumstances, I mean his first NFL game going against legit receivers, aside from the nerves and butterflies and in his mind wondering if he can do this.

When he gets his head straight and the butterflies are gone, and it's I can do this is when we will see him blossom, took Shaq about 4 games last season to start rounding into what we seen was a growth the rest of the season to where we learned to have confidence in his play.

PFF graded Flowers, Shaquem, and Calitro really badly. Those were the three worst grades from the game.

He seemed to get burned a lot on crossing routes. He was allowing 5+ yards of cushion.

Can Thorpe not split reps at CB? Or keep Coleman on the field at LCB when he is not playing nickel?

None of this is unexpected, CB's need confidence to play their best, yes he gave cushion because he is new and first NFL game, crossing routes are the slots responsibility he plays the outside in technique and crashes for run support. oh and 5 yards is not a lot of cushion for a speed receiver. That's two steps. You want to mess with these guys play and heads, start pulling them out for every little screw up and you won't cover anyone well.

Frankly thought he played pretty well for a rookie that has spent TC learning to play an new position.

I am cautiously optimistic after Tre's first game, Pete didn't have to pull him out of the game or he repeatedly gave up big plays, nor did he seem like losing confidence as game progressed. In fact, one could argued that Tre's confidence seen ok or even grew some in second half.

Now that he has played his first game, OC's will game plan to take advantage of him based on his tapes, we shall see. I have a very good feeling about Tre, dude has some talent and is taking his job seriously, leashing on to Brandon Marshall for learning how WR's dealt with CBs.

I adopted three rookies, Jones the LT is hurt probably out for the season, QB McGough didn't make the team, and Tre is starting. I am cheering Tre to make it.

I'm with you, 100%. Tre seemed to settle in as the the game progressed. Quite honestly, he was far from the worst rookie on the field yesterday. I'm excited about him. He's going to be a good one.

Ehh, I saw him do a lot of good stuff. Tackling, being aggressive and he didn't let his mistakes get to him. Those are really telling attributes. I'm not saying it can't go the other way but given the situation he was put in (new position, first NFL starting game, playing at Denver). I was concerned early but he really settled down, really think there is some serious potential here.

One of the things I was looking for was to see if he keeps everything in front of him, makes tackles and doesn't get burned. He was 50/50 and showed a lot of promise, I think this can be a winner.

Veteran safety Bradley McDougald, who also spoke to Clayton after Sunday’s loss, had encouraging words to say about Flowers despite his teammate’s self-critique.

“Man, I said it earlier during training camp, Tre Flowers is a beast,” McDougald said. “Once he gets his confidence level up there and once he gets to feeling himself back there and gets in a natural groove, he’s going to be elite. He has the body frame of any big receiver and he has the agility to stick a small receiver, so I see big things for Tre.”

On 9 targets, Tre Flowers allowed 7 catches for 124 yards, 1 TD, and a 155.8 QB rating.

But I’m really glad fans are staying so positive about his performance.

I’m concerned about that spot, but much less so against Browns QB Mitchell Trubisky, who has always stuggled to complete passes of more than five yards to the left side of the field.

I'd feel better with someone like DeShawn Shead (who's available) ready to go on the sidelines if we need him.
