Seahawks Legend Steve Hutchinson, a Hall of Fame guard who now works for the player personnel department under the title of football consultant, tells Schneider, "The last time you picked a guard that high was me. And then you left." Indeed, Hutchinson, the 17th overall pick in 2001, was the team's most recent top 20 pick on an interior lineman before Zabel. And Schneider, the Seahawks' director of player personnel at the time, left not long after that 2001 draft to become the vice president of player personnel for Washington.

Did we draft Grey or Black Zabel? Because I'm suddenly reminded of an adage involving a pot and a kettle.

Funny how the front office is well aware of NFL's penchant for going to commercial just as Seahawks' pick is about to be announced.

I picked up on that too.

Schneider then asks chief communications officer Dave Pearson, "Will they talk about us on TV," a reference to the draft broadcast's uncanny ability over the years to cut to commercial just as the Seahawks are about to pick.

LOL. Saw Jack Johnson at the Gorge a couple years ago. Nice read, a look inside our war room.

Great read.

On another note, how did I not know Schneider worked for the Seahawks for a year in 2000 before his hire in 2010? Learn something new every day I guess.

Nice, fun read.
Some highlights.

Hortons nickname, T-Bone.

Hineline to Ouzts, *Don't shave the mustache, that's part of the contract*.

*Sweet Home Alabama* playing in the draft room.

Zabel makes call to Mason Richman, *Nervous as hell*.

JS sees this draft as, smart, tough, reliable, swaggy, athletic, speed.

I read this last night. Love the inside look at what draft weekend looks like. I wish they could share more but for obvious reasons they don't and I get and respect that. I would love to just sit in there one time myself.

I was just discussing this with a co-worker. Fly on the wall in any draft room would be so cool.

There must be mad shit-talking that takes place about other team's picks - and dead honest evals of many players that are not as sugary as we get in the media.

I wonder if they could run a competition? A single winner - minus their phone, tablet, means of outside communication, plus a signed NDA concerning trades/trade partners that don’t work out - gets to sit at the back of the room on draft day. An experience of a lifetime but with no way of damaging/exposing the inner workings etc.

Could you keep your mouth shut afterwards, that if it meant you got to hang out with scouts, coaches, front office staff - and watch a draft unfold in front of your eyes? 😀
