Yesterday Goodell said, "nobody in the league office had access to the video", without qualification.

Today, the AP reports that Law Enforcement gave them the video months ago (with voice mail to confirm receipt).

I think Goodell is done. WOW.

So what's Goodell's excuse for imposing no punishment at all on Greg Hardy, who was found guilty of assault in a domestic violence case in July?

IIRC, it was still pending, but would not be subject to the new policies.

Hardy has to be nervous as hell now.

Was found guilty before a judge only. North Carolina also gives him a trial before a jury prior to conviction. He'll likely face punishment from the league once that's completed.

Honestly, c'mon.

Name names. Divulge sources.

This whole "I heard from a source that an unnamed law enforcement sent it to an unnamed female exec"

Just tell us who it is, then we don't have to play the what if game. We can say, "see, right here. This is the people callin you a liar, and here's their proof." But no. We have to continue to play speculation because journalist are so scared of naming names.

They don't even have to reveal the source. Why not just name which "NFL exec" it was sent to and who left the return voicemail? A) the law enforcement official would've put a name on the envelope/e-mail delivering the tape B) who leaves a voicemail without leaving their name? What good is this cloud of ambiguity doing for anyone besides prolonging the story for news sites and networks?

This whole back and forth is getting tiresome. People need to start laying their cards on the table. Many have already lost sight of what this whole thing was about to begin with.

Well if he knew otherwise, yeah, he's done and deservedly so. If he didn't know someone in the NFL offices had it, then you are EXACTLY like the people that call Pete Carroll a cheater because of what Reggie Bush did.

Let that one sink in for a moment.

NFL Network is funny as hell right now. They literally look like a state run news channel from the Middle East. One of the reporters looks like he had a gun pointed at him when he was "reporting" the AP story. You just can't make this stuff up.

I read in one of the articles, that the AP source had asked that the reporter not identify who inside the NFL received the tape because he feared that the investigation would then lead back to him. Since it was against state law to release the tape before the conclusion of the case, I imagine the person who released it would lose their job and face other possible penalties if exposed.

Seems kinda weak. If he did indeed send it to someone who has any direct link to the commissioner's office, then it's going to be fairly easy to trace it back to him whether he named the guy or not. That's unless he sent it some low level, remote "exec" who no one will ever be able to track down. And if that's the case, then the fact he that sent it to some corporate runt isn't exactly going to be the smoking gun that everyone wants it to be.

If he was really concerned about the consequences of illegally releasing the tape, then reporting this to the AP probably wasn't the most prudent idea.

I think Goodell is going down despite Wellington Mara's support for him after this latest revelation.

How untrustworthy is Peter King now after retracting his obviously true story that the tape was floating around out there? He's always been an analyst that plays favorites based on who gives him access, but he was always a pretty trustworthy reporter up until now.

This evolving story feels like a high speed wobble that has turned into a full blown tank slapper.
