Scoring of the Purdy-led whiners vs. a Macdonald coached defense:
2025 - 17, ?
2024 - 36, 20
2023 - 19 (SF vs. Baltimore)

It's a small sample size, I know, but the outlier is that 36 points in game 6 last year, when our defense simply wasn't playing that well yet. It dramatically improved after the bye and the second game shows that. Macdonald seems to do better matching wits against Shanahan than McVay.

I'm going to predict their score right at the average of those numbers. Hawks 30, Whiners 24.

Thursday evening , Mr Purdy goes on a walk to clear his mind. While trying to avoid stepping on a hypodermic, he trips on the curb and face plants in a steamy pile of San Francisco. His resulting pink eye spreads through the locker room like the plague. TMZ runs the footage 24/7 .

Close game, as CMC plays well . Charbs carrie's the rock effectively and K9 catches a pivotal pass for a 3rd qtr TD. TE's are heavily involved in the passing game and even Bobo catches an 11 yard pass on 3rd down to keep a TD drive going. Sam , in a New Years miracle doesn't throw a pick.

Hawks take it 26 - 24
Keep your stale-azz politics to yourself. I despise the Whiners with a passion only rivaled by the DREAD DUCKS, but the Dungaree Dome is roughly the distance from SF that Lumen is to JBLM. Which is to say, your fantasy scenario is just that. A fantasy that has nothing to do with sports.

That said, either way it turns out I have a feeling that the Whiners will be the last blockade to the Superbowl for us. Somebody got to win the NFC.

Fingers crossed: Hawks 31, Whiners 27

Lighten up, Francis. Was a silly joke.
Most of my jokes involve poo of some kind, so I took an obvious dig.
Like your prediction, though 👍

Weather in Santa Clara on Saturday.

Low 52F. Winds SSE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall near a quarter of an inch.

This will slow down both offenses.

It will be a low scoring game and will keep the 49ers Defense from allowing the Seattle offense from running up and down the field.

McCaffery and Robinson control the clock and the game.

Pineiro kicks the 49ers to a +6 point win.

So you're saying that the Seahawks' defense will play on par with the Bears defense?

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

A delusional take.

Nope. I did not say that. I said "Sam Darnold will see Sam Things." As in ghosts. He does tend to react that way in the really big games. BUT, his last big game against the Rams, Sam shook off the ghosts and had one of the best finishes I've ever witnessed. That does make me a tad worried. He proved, in that Rams game, that he can handle the pressure of a really big moment and make the really big completions.

Add that to the fact that this is the weakest 49er defense I've ever seen, and this could be a long and disappointing day for San Francisco. The 49ers haven't been able to stop any team in the last month of play, which is never a good sign.

Last four weeks this team has a combined total of 4 sacks. That’s not good. Part of that is the pace of the games. We need to get ahead early and let the dawgs hunt!

This team is capable of dominating, but it’ll take a clean game for that to happen. I think the 49ers are a bit tighter than we’d like to realize. Depth is key. Injuries and turnovers may happen, this team must control the middle of the field. They must run the ball, control the clock and punish Purdy. And no stupid penalties.

I hate to say it, but Kupp needs to have a big game. AJ too. Not necessarily tons of yards, just big catches to move chains and put points on the board. Sammy D, keep it simple and realize them are going to run schemes. Avoid the traps. Double move time!

Hawks….. 26
49ers……. 23

Rams fan here. Obviously I'm pulling for the Seahawks to win. But even if it wasn't helping us securing the 5th seed I'd still pull for the Seahawks in this one. The one team I hate with a passion is the 49ers. And their arrogant clueless fan base. The Patriots are a distant second with who I hate the most after the 49ers. So do me a favor and kick some 49er butts!
Suppose things turn out that it is again Rams vs Seahawks. Will your username auto change to snarkdaddy?

I don't have a score prediction but I do have an uneasy feeling. The 49ers just seem to have our number and it shows itself when we drop games to them we really should have won, see the first game of the season. And I have to give credit where it's due: Shanahan is probably the best offensive play caller in the League right now and he'd get my vote for Coach of the Year considering what he's had to overcome to get here. Our counter to that is Macdonald, who is probably the best defensive play caller in the League as well, and he'd get my vote for Coach of the Year if not for Shanny. So, it's going to be strength vs strength as far as that goes, which will be fascinating and fun to watch. Conversely, and this plays to our advantage, our offense is tough to beat when we're firing on all cylinders and not making mistakes and San Francisco's defense has injuries and isn't playing their best ball.

As I see it, it'll all come down to Kubiak dialing up a good game plan and Sam executing. If we can do both of those things, we should win a close one. If not, the home team prevails. Unfortunately, I don't have the confidence yet that Sam will step up in a game this big.

49ers by one score.

Sam gets it done.

This will be a close low scoring game where the Hawks D shows up and shuts down the SF O when needed. This time Sam doesn't fumble when in scoring position. Purdy gets "rubbed hard" a few times and McC is slowed down and stuffed.

JSN grabs 2 TDs and the running game its better than last time the two team met.

Hawks 20 - 9ers 17

Division games are always a strange animal. Past performances mean jack.
That's really true. Unless teams played a few weeks ago, things tend to change quite a bit. Injuries and other stuff alter things. Your post made me think of something I've noticed ...... you see people on tv saying stuff like " over the last 5 seasons, the team averages 122 yards rushing ... blah blah " Teams change so much , even from year to year, that stats over any real length of time are kinda meaningless. In 5 years, most of the players are different, coaches are different, and schemes have changed. I think in the sense of history, they over analyze things or just wanna sound smart.

Gotta disagree. I think CMC , while a real monster, will be handled relatively ok. Kittle is what worries me. Even if it rains, snows, or frogs fly in with a tornado, that guy is a difference maker. I still think Seattle takes it in a close one, but it wont be easy

It's a toss up. I'd like to say Seahawks cruise to something like 20-10 but the weather appears to suck and Darnold will Darnold.

It's funny on the whiners forums to see all the comments about how they've owned the hawks over the past few years. To me, nothing prior to Macdonald coming on board is relevant. They were 1-1 against us last year and beat us once this year. Last year's first game (our loss) was against a new defense that wasn't playing well, and then we beat them after the bye when the defense was one of the better ones in the league. Like the Rams game a couple of weeks ago, this is a matchup of two really good teams that are remarkably even. I'm impressed they can be so confident that Purdy is going to throw for 800 yards and 12 touchdowns against us, but I don't expect a blowout in either direction.

You know, I may be accused of being a homer, but honestly the more that I look at this matchup the more I think that contrary to what most are thinking, the Seahawks win this one fairly handily.

The Seahawks are #1 in DVOA
The 49ers are #9 in DVOA

The Seahawks Defense is #2 in fewest points allowed (18.1 pts/game)

The 49ers Defense meanwhile ranks #13 in points allowed (22.4)

The Seahawks Defense is #8 in sacks (44)

The 49ers meanwhile rank #32 - dead last in sacks (18)

The Seahawks Defense ranks #9 in TD allowed (20)

The 49ers Defense meanwhile ranks #26 in TD allowed (29)

I have to agree with Bump in saying that I think that with the key injuries that this Niners team has had along that defensive front that their defensive line is nothing special. Our Offensive Line could have a field day and we could easily see another big day for the ground game …

Looking at both teams, the 49ers just look like to me a much more banged up team.

I’m personally thinking:

Seahawks 31
49ers 17
