Still can't believe we are in the race. Drop 2 of 3 in two straight home series against teams we are competing with for the WC, yet we are still only 2 GB. I still don't think we make it, but it should at least be a fun ride til the end. Really good to see the old Felix today, it just shows that he still has it.

For such a low-scoring game, that was INTENSE in-person!

My family sat in right/center and were the only Mariner fans as far as the eye could see. I don't mind. We got heckled, we heckled back. All in good fun. It truly felt like a playoff game, what with our season on the line had we lost.

2 games back. We need to go 7-3, and have the Orioles & Tigers go 5-5 to end the season ... in order to tie Baltimore for the 2nd WC spot. Entirely possible looking at their stacked schedules, versus our easy finishing opponents. :irishdrinkers:

And that's all she wrote, fellas. Mariners baseball. Overall a pretty good first year for Dipoto and Servais in a loaded AL....

Win today and they are hanging right in there..

Are you usually this over reactive about one of 162 games?

i felt like the m's controlled their own destiny if they just won their remaining series. To come home after an 8 game win streak to drop consecutive series is incredibly disappointing. Now they'll need to get hot again and hope either balt or toronto AND houston or detroit crap the bed

orioles down big...CHOKE CHOKE CHOKE!

Ebbs and flows of a baseball season.

losing 4 of 6 to two teams right next to you in the standings is hard, but not the end of the world. Lots left to play out I guess was my point.

Meaningful baseball in late September. How long has it been?

Big series at Minnesota coming up. Probably need to sweep them to stay in it.

The team with the worst record in the majors who swept the Ms earlier in the year. Let's return the favor, shall we?

And then making the playoffs, I'd like nothing better than to meet the Jays again and knock them out.

2 years. Not last season, but the one before that.

In 2014 we were 87-75 and finished 1 game out of the wildcard. That season literally came down to the very last game of the season.

Just thought I'd share since it seems that no one remembers that with the amount of comments similar to yours I've seen in this thread over the last few weeks.

So yeah, not very long. :p

And quite a few of the same players still on the team. Actually, a pretty good first year for the Dipoto/Servais duo, if you take a higher perspective on it. So many people were in a "fire them all and start over" mindset after last season. Once again, I have to say that it's a good thing that the fans don't control much about team operations.

Got it.

Let me rephrase...

How many times over the last 20 years has it been?

Not sure exactly, but 20 years goes back to '96 and we had some pretty good years back then even up to 2003 when we finished 93-69 but didn't make the playoffs.

That 10 year stretch from 2004-2013 was dog balls ugly for the most part though.

I was there for the lean 80s years. I was there for the Pinella years, 2001 and the whole stretch in between.

I guess my question was rhetorical in nature and more about how exciting this weekend will be

With so many Canadians coming down for a baseball game, can you imagine how many would come down for NHL (especially as Canucks tickets aren't cheap) and the tourist dollars they would spend.

They might but the Blue Jays are the only Canadian MLB team and getting to see them play in person, outdoors in a beautiful city must be very attractive. The city needed to approve the arena but Seattle is governed by idiots.

They might be the only canadian baseball team but Canadians from experience are way more passionate about hockey. Feel we are missing a trick not having NHL and the league are poorer for it too. Sorry for being off topic.

Also I heard on 710 that the Vancouver equivalent of that station is a Mariners affiliate that were giving away groupon type deals to the game which kind of back fired hence the ridiculous amount of Blue Jays fans.

I actually got to see that game last night, and I thought it said Jays at M's, but when they showed the crowd, my wife said, the game is in Toronto right?

Pathetic M's fans. Shit, I was there during the Maury Wills and Dick Williams days.

Houston and Baltimore lose. The mariners just need to keep winning, a long winning streak would be very nice right now. It just feels like this team crumbles with any pressure or expectation though

That's good. But Detroit did win both games today in their double header against Minnesota.

I think we have a chance catching Baltimore. We play Houston and could and should knock them out of the running with a series win there. Detroit is the team I feel we are most likely to lose a WC spot to. But they do have a difficult stretch of teams to close out their year (they play KC/CLE/ATL in comparison to our schedule: MIN/HOU/OAK).

Two last place teams and the one in front of us in the division; can't ask for better set table than that.
